    Came across this article

    http://tumbrella.com.au/2009/11/13/australian-government-cracks-down-on-second-year-working-holiday-visa-applications/
    Above wrote:
A government crackdown on fraudulent second-year working holiday visa applications has resulted in rising numbers of backpackers withdrawing their applications, according to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

DIAC director of working holiday section Deirdre Russack told delegates at the Adventure and Backpacker Industry Conference (ABiC) an Irish backpacker had his visa cancelled after he was found to have submitted a fraudulent application.

He bought the visa documentation in a pub for $500, was fined $1,400 and had his visa cancelled.

Russack told Tumbrella that, since the crackdown on fraudulent applications, ”we’ve been having more of them withdrawn”.

Figured it might be of interest.

    On a related note:

    http://www.irishecho.com.au/2009/11/15/authorities-stalk-irish-national-over-visa-scam/881
The case of an Irishman being investigated by Australia’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) over visa fraud has been passed on to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    and

AN Irishman has been convicted of fraud, and many others are under investigation as the Department of Immigration gets tough on a scam over second Working Holiday visas.

Interesting bit on the last article

People convicted of fraud under the Migration Act may be liable for imprisonment for up to 10 years, and/or a fine of up to $110,000.

Know a few people either caught or who withdrew quickly as soon as the news broke, but all on the same ABN. People are still getting the visas without the country work thankfully though, AFAIK some prick was selling an ABN for a company that hasnt been in operation in years, then the government started contacting everyone who used said ABN. Given some rural work is nothing more than slave labour and should be illegal demanding people undertake this work for the visa is taking the piss. FFS the Irish are the backbone of industries such as construction, why they make it harder to stay when there arent enough Aussies bothered enough to get off their arse and work these jobs is beyond me.

Good lord, buying ABN's - this has to be some sort of Joke, No? How on earth would that aid someone in getting a second year?

Ya of course its rife around Melbourne anyway for sure. You can buy them for between $400 - $500, they then provide you an ABN number and the contact information for a farmer, you give them the dates you were ''supposed'' to work and if they do receive a follow up call from immigration then they will confirm your story.

Madness, so many of my pals were deported from Sydney about 8or so weeks ago cos of this.... Its worth it to do the 3 months slaving rather than a ban and fine!!!
