<€600, consider used. >€600, consider new, for a multi geared drop bar road bike.

If you're a freaky height (dwarf/giant) you may find a bargain at this time of year.

Ive seen a viking calgaria for sale second hand. Anyone had 1 of these? I'm thinking of buying it, its a hybrid and going at a reasonable price. What are people thoughts on this?

If it's this/this, then I wouldn't call that a great value used buy, since the RRP is £300 and it can be had new for £255.99 (yes, I know that's in the UK, but still).

You'd be better off with a Carrera Subway for that money.

Just to get you thinking of the type of bike you should be looking for you could answer the questions here. Then you should probably try to get a second-hand good manufacturer bike of the type to suit your needs.

Yeah thats the exaxt 1 I am planning on buying! I bargained down to 190euro with out the extra tyre and bottle holders. Its a year old. I'm fairly tight on money. It looks in good nick, what do you reckon? Still a good buy? Cheers

I really don't know. For cheap used bikes condition is everything since replacing components will cost a significant proportion of the total value of the thing. As a general rule, I reckon bikes lose up to half their value in the first year.

Just bought a brand new MARUISHI Men's Road Racing Bike Shimano 21 Gears from ebay. Checked it out and it looks ideal for me as a starter cyclist. Brand new at 147euro, 30euro shipping. Thanks all for your help and advice. :D

I always followed the 67% rule as a guide, 50% depreciation is quite severe, especially at the midrange bike category. Maybe Blorg will be selling his planet X for 500 euro in a few months, I should shut my mouth.

    Yes, 50% is worst case.

It helps if the bike you're selling on was good value to start with. If you spend €1000 in a bike shop on a "branded" generic alloy frame with Sora/Tiagra mix (perfectly possible) you'd struggle to get more than €500 for it after a year of proper use.

Or, if you spend €5000 on a carbon superbike with a non-transferable frameset warranty, you might struggle to get €2500 for it a year later.

Sorry for the thread hi-jack but do anyone actually do that? Never heard of a non-transferable warranty.

    Cervelo. Original owner only.

With most manufacturers the warranties are non-transferable. In fact I don't think I have ever heard of a bike manufacturer who does transferable warranties.

EDIT: In addition to Cervelo, also: Trek, Specialized, Litespeed, Van Nicholas, Focus, Giant, Dawes

That would cover my bikes :) apart from Planet X who aren't specific on it, all the others are very clear it is original owner only.

I guess I need to reread the warranty page. Thanks
