Link to the results of the Intervarsity Road Relays held yesterday at Maynooth. Some really positive early season performances, enormous fields in both the men's and women's races and fine weather after the downpours of last week!

Some mile by Patrick Linden if its accurate especially on the roads, 4.03 is international class. He must have destroyed the field. Just wondering how can Brendan O Neill run for DCU when he was signed up to go to Northeastern, did he decide against going because surely you cant decide to leave half way through the semester in America and then actually run a race for DCU which you just left. Did he transfer course and then transfer back again it seems very complex and a lot of administration.

That 4.03 split is wrong I think. DCU and UL were neck and neck just after the 1st mile. The Queens 2nd runner had a slow time also (well relatively slow, I would have been happy with 10.07 :L)

The first queen's runner finished in 4.35ish, which would mean the second ran 9.34ish

Im not sure re the Brendan O Neill thing. But one thing that I am certain of that a well known athlete on the DCU A team should not have been let run according to IUAA rules. He failed an exam last year in DCU and going by the precedence set last year by ENDA FITZPATRICK who has been quoted of saying to an athlete last year " I dont care if your a 4minute miler, if you fail an exam your not allowed to compete for the college".

But of course this is what is wrong with the DCU system, one rule for some and a different rule for others.

    <MOD EDIT>

As always the no unsubstantiated allegations rule applies here as elsewhere. If an athlete has broken rules then link to reputable 3rd party sources to prove it. Do not make unsubstantiated accusations without proof. Failure to comply with this rule will lead to the removal of posting rights.

    Thanks

I believe by iuaa rulebooks O Neill should not have been allowed to run although he did not fail exams he was on scholarship I think and dropped out returning and racing the same year for a different college. As for athletes failing exams not been allowed to run that is unfair and undemocratic. Any student could have a bad day and fail one exam while doing very well in the rest. Surely that is only a DCU policy rather than an IUAA policy.

    1. he went as part of his course which had the option to do a year abroad
    2. had bust up with coach over there in an early season training and as such was not on their roster yet and didnt run one race

Brendan was perfectly eligible to run. As for the other matter i am not a DCU student so cant commen but dont think this is an IUAA policy

Lodge an official complaint with the IUAA if you feel that they broke the rules. Making allegations on here against specific people isn't helpful.

If O Neil was only on erasmus then thats fine he can compete no problem. There were rumours that he moved to northeastern on a permanent basis which have proved false so that issue is now concluded, although any insight into what caused the bustup I presume it had to do with O Neil wanting to stick to his own training regime and not been told what to do by an unknown coach with a different training philosophy. O Neil is a 100 mile plus a week man most likely given DSD coaches philsophy although I cannot say for sure .

As per Mod warning in the post above please restrict this to factual discussion of the races, results, etc.

O'Neill is currently logging 80 to 85 miles a week. When you take this into account it seems very strange that he could have a bustup with a coach over the pace of a two hour long run.

Think we need to get away from the specultaion on training philosophies i was just clarifying the fact that he was eligble.
On another note some run for Mulhare he must be in contention for a spot on the u23 team shaping up nicely maybe McCarthy,o Lionaird, Rooney, O Neil, Mulhare and ??????

4'03 for a mile in maynooth with all the twists and turns? On a motorbike maybe! As regards the jimmylive post, i know this for a fact to be true as i heard this conversation myself, even if it is off topic.

In fairness lads was it that hard a warning to understand?

Boards Ltd had a legal responsibility not to post libellous or defamatory material about an individual or organisation. If you can prove it's true you can say what you want. If it's "I heard this" or "my uncles brothers cat said that" then you can't. Pretty simple.

    Locked.
