Windows 7 takes up 12 gigs.

Use spacemonger to see what is taking up the space

My computer say 280 free of 297 total , so I think the 17 is Win 7, office etc, which is OK. However the total figure should be approx 320 not 297 ?

    you haven't lost anything

    1 Gb = 1024 Mb
    1 Mb = 1024 Kb
    1 Kb = 1024 bytes

The problem is that manufacturers consider:
1 Gb = 1.000.000.000 bytes, so a pendrive of 1 Gb has a capacity of 1.000.000.000, instead of the "real" Gb value (1.073.741.824 bytes)

So your hard drive only has 297Gb

thats normal. Manufacturers use a smaller measurement unit so there is a higher number of them

    edit bet and bettered
