Portumana 3-1 to 0-1 Loughrea after 12 mins

Really asking a lot for Loughrea to come back now. Damien Hayes with 2 goals.

Definately no love lost between the teams with no quarter asked or given.

Portumna running riot here. Damien Hayes's man has already been subbed.

    HT Portumna 3-10 Loughrea 1-5

Can't see Loughrea getting back into this with Portumna just looking too good all over the pitch. Would have to be a major makor upset at this stage.

    Another goal for Portumna.

Got very sparky straight after the goal and a straight red for Brian Hayes.

The Loughrea team were very poor. Judging by them today they must have got a lucky path to the final, there must be better teams than them in Galway?

I think it might have been more of a case of Portumna being very good.
    Played some lovely stuff today.

That combined with the great start Portumna got meant Loughrea was always up against it.

No doubt Portumna are a very good team and will be favourites to win the All Ireland but Loughrea fitness wise were very poor and the only way they thought they'd win was by intimidation. Number 13 for Loughrea can count himself lucky not to be sent off and number 14 was so unfit he wouldn't get his place on my local junior team! I'm sure Portumna got harder games in the Galway championship from other teams but i'm just puzzled how Loughrea got to the final with that team!

Don't know where you're getting the intimidation thing from - if anything Portumna hurled harder today and a few challenges were bordering on the dirty side of playing hard. That said Loughrea and in particular Damien McClearn gave back a few dirty digs themselves but on the whole the match was hard fought and relatively clean. Johnny O'Loughlin was indeed lucky to stay on for the strike on Ollie - in my opinion based on the sending off of Niall Hayes he should have gone too. The only difference between the two incidents was there was a ball somewhere in one of them.

Johnny Maher (14) is a decent player but you can only hurl with the ball thats let into you and Portumna were pretty effective at limiting that. To be honest Portumna didn't get any harder games than that this year and I don't know if thats indicative of how bad the rest of the county is or how good Portumna are, personally I'd say its a mixture of both. I will say this though, for a team that got to the final I don't think any Loughrea player will make the county team next year and thats a sad reflection on Galway hurling to be honest.

Anyway, as a Portumna man, I'm delighted with todays result and it should put to bed 2006 for good if it wasn't already. Now to exact some of the same revenge on Dunloy. :D

Good showing from Portumna. Great to see Damo Hayes back on form again and here's hoping Portumna win another All-Ireland in March.
