i phone 3g and skype question?

Hi Folks,
Currently due a decent upgrade to with 02, but am happy with my phone bombproof phone which I drop/throw and generally abuse.
However the other half is interested in the i-phone, shes with 3, as she uses skype a lot.
If I get the i-phone as an upgrade, I'm assuming I can get it unlocked can she use it for skype via 3 network? or would she need to use it via wi-fi?

Can only be used with wifi at time of writing.

If you're unlocking it to the 3 network then you'll have to jailbreak it, which means you can download the hack that makes wi-fi only apps work over 3g so should be ok. Thats all free by the way.
I use the skype app a fair bit and works really well for me.

Actually, now that i think of it, I'm not sure if you can jailbreak the new iphones, heard they were making em so can't be done any more, so not sure what the situation there is... been a while since I've been reading about it all.

You could do what I did and get a legally unlocked iphone from another country... adds a bit to price but I like it done the way it is, a lot less hassel.

Current upgrade costs me 50 euro, so it's a whole lot of gadgetry for the price.

For 50 quid , go for it .
You will need to jb and unlock the phone using blackra1n and follow what the previous poster said, install an App that fools the phone into thinking it's on WiFi when in 3G.
The whole jb and unlock process is now painless and takes no more than 2mins.

Downsides..
The phone will more than likely be manufactured in the past few weeks and have the new ibootrom (see my older posts for more info) so will have to be hooked up to a p.c everytime it's rebooted , this is required to rejailbreak.
It's the only jailbreak option (tethered)at present for new phones.

You will void your warrenty if Apple find it's jailbroken , this is easily worked around by restoring the phone before sending it back for repairs etc.

Cracked in so far as you can jb but need to tether to rejailbreak if phone gets rebooted.

This kid GeoHot (20yrs old ) has achieved what the whole DevTeam could not. He is pure genius in many peoples eyes and not far off in my opinion.
His jailbreaks and unlocks are so simple and all he ask is to donate.
All his hacks are mac and win friendly.

VOIPover3G is the app to look for in cydia if you want to use skype without a wifi network

does anyone no of a docking station for the iphone as the majority of them dont support the iphone and you must first put it into flight mode which is a pain as u cannot recieve calls or texts wile doing so.
