    Hi,

I've come across my perfect bike, at a reasonable price (for what it us, secondhand), from a private seller in the UK.

Only thing is I would need to cover postage/courier/insurance to Ireland.
I went to the parcel force website and put in rough dimensions + weight and it comes out at over 200 pounds sterling. This is a bit more than what I had expected tbh.
I'm wondering if they would have special pricing for bikes etc.
Or, can anyone recommend a another courier service.

Thanks in advance, - any advice sincerely appreciated, as if I can get this sorted, i'll have a cracking bike on my hands :) .

FWIW, when I bought my Tricross from Pearsons a year ago they charged me £17.25 for shipping to Ireland...

...via PARCELFORCE WORLDWIDE - INTERNATIONAL DATAPOST.

I'm sure bike shops get volume discounts, but that is a massive price differential.

I've a feeling that they price differently for bikes than the price that comes up from their quote wizard on their website. I got a bike delivered before from the North, also from a bike ship with free delvery, - so I too find it hard to believe that it could be so expensive, even as you say, - notwithstanding the volume discounts a bike shop would get.
I'll try giving them a call on the phone on Monday (their lines are closed now) maybe and see if I can do any better.
Still, anyone else with any suggestions are welcome...

Drop a mate of mine an email lorcan@palletstoireland.com, tell him junior sent you, and see what he can do for you.

Try Mail Boxes Etc. www.mbe.co.uk . Pick the store nearest where the bike is - they'll look after packing & shipping. Prices should be good. I'm getting the York branch to send me a bike I bought on E-Bay next week. (I should probably say that I do own the Rathmines Branch of MBE, but have nothing to do with any of the stores in the UK).

Just in case anyone is looking for info on doing the same in future....

In the end I used TNT via freightquote.ie and got the bike over for 80 euro.
Excellent service and freightquote rang around to get me the best price.
The benefit of using an agent like this is that a lot of the couriers etc. will only deal with accounts for larger packages, and won't do one offs.
