My granfather's insurance will be up for renewal soon, when the time comes he will be 81. Does anyone know the best company for older drivers. As for the past few years his insurance has been going up about a 100 a year.

    Thanks

As far as I recall from going through the phonebook and ringing insurance companies each renewal time there is a company called Caoga (Irish for 50 I think) who specialise in if not exclusively provide insurance to the over 50's. Don't have the yellow pages immediately to hand for a number but they might be worth a go.

    Scary!

Age doesn't always = bad driving... I had a relative who drove until she was 93 and it was only in the last year or so I thought she was in any way dodgy to other drivers (getting slow, only).

She was blipped speeding on the M7 when she was 89!

edit: HAVE a relative, she's still alive - she knew when to give up rather than only stopping when she died.

    Scary!

No need for that. Let's keep this thread on-topic please.

And with all due respect the moderator already dealt with it. Do not back seat moderate

My bad... I had posted in the meantime before I seen Alanstraintor's post.

OP my best advise is ultimately you are probably best to pick up phone book and ring as many insurance companies and brokers as possible. You will find that some will insist that it is the proposer that makes the call though.

Have the Golden Pages here in front of me Cormywormy. Caogas number is 1850 730 930. They are also online, caoga.com. Before they were specialising in insurance for over 50's as I recall but not it appears to be the over 45's as per their ad.

    What's the Irish for 45?

Does it play slower if you're 78? :p

Couldn't answer you that MCMLXXV. I guess their name is not now very apt seen as they cater for over 45's.

Erm, I don't follow! I suppose they specialise in insurance for for the older generation do I guess thats why I recommended them to the OP as one definately worth ringing. Having said that though they may get a more competitive quote elsewhere so do try as many as possible.

For what it's worth, the 81 year-old who crashed into me was insured with Quinn.

I presume the same advice applies here as it does to anyone looking for insurance - get out there and ring lots of companies and brokers.
