Aren't they in most toilets these days any way? for liability reasons?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

Doesn't bother me tbh, sure in the men's jacks everyone can see you go anyway...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,586 ✭✭✭cedomination

In my school they used to remove the door of the jacks if people were smoking/mitching in the toilets.

If you take a dump in public bathrooms then you're no better than an animal

There was uproar over a CCTV system that was fitted into the jacks of a school in Kildare when Parents and students found out.

Parents claim they were not informed of the decision which the school says is in response to vandalism.

Can anyone tell me if this school is run by Priests? :D

We've got CCTV fixed on the door of the toilets to clock who enters and leaves

    No big deal

I thought it was illegal to put CCTV in toilets?

Certainly isn't as long as they don't cover ahem...obvious areas

It's mainly done to cover insurance cases. I worked in a nightclub where the managers office had a video feed to the toilet area. Bouncers could be alerted to trouble, we didn't have people there all night like city places do

Surely you remember the lads in Supermacs in Galway who put water on the floor, lay down and got someone to call an ambulance?
Compo culture was the hot topic back then

This means the cubicles, I guess?

Fair enough if it's in the main bathroom area.

Parents are so overly sensitive about their children nowadays. If a teacher gives out to a student for misbeahviour, chances are you'll have the parents coming in and biting the head off the teacher for giving out to their precious son/daughter. I think people are overreacting to this in fairness. Sure their are CCTV cameras, but at the same time there's a reason they're there(Don't even think about turning that into a comment about peadophilia) I can understand why people are more protective with their kids these day, when you hear stories about priests and children, or even teachers and children you're obviously going to think twice about whether you're children are trully safe, but I just think the parents need to sort of drop it.

No as long as you are not looking at the urinals and the bowls. Privacy being a priority.

They would have been better looking at the underlying bullying problem before taking these steps in the school :(

CCTV technology has come along way in the last 7 years. Cameras are nearly all HDD based so that images can be stored for retrieval. In this case staff can pan, tilt and zoom the cameras right on students having a slash and focus in on their knobs.

On the news a protesting pupil had a sign saying:

"CAMERA IN THE JAX, I CANT PULL DOWN ME KAX"

    Really encapsulates the anger.

If they put cameras in my school I really wouldn't care as long as they aren't pointed at the urinals.

As long as it's not in the cubicle, why not? Even people saying that it shouldn't face towards the uninal? I don't know about you lads, but when I piss, I piss facing a wall. And I don't turn around til everything is squared away. So all you'd be seeing is a fully dressed person from behind.

Unless you're like Butters, and piss with your trousers around your ankles. If this is the case, you're probably on youtube already.

After everything that's gone on over the years within the Irish educational system the school was asking for trouble when they decided to install them on the QT without informing parents.

Whether its right or wrong depends on where exactly the cameras are located & what can be seen from them IMO.

What's all the fuss about

people online pay cash to watch others taking dumps and peeing in public *
    :);)

They should have it as pay per view online, maybe then they can build some fcuking decent schools with all the revenue....

If its a general cam shot great, and should be in all public loo's so much undesirable stuff can go on there, but isn't there a legal problem though, sorry havent read the thread fully.

If you ****/wanked in the toilets of your school you have bigger issues to deal with than a CCTV camera

What, does yours have an outhouse?..

I think that this will only encourage kids to slash and dump elsewhere, ie the bicycle shed, behind lockers, changing rooms, the back of the class etc if staff are not looking. :D

gorey community school, fitted cctv in the jax about 4 or 5 year ago, nobody batted an eyelid.

Would it not be quicker to just tell them to stop?

Actually the school in question is my old school and I say fair play to them. If it helps stop bullying and isn't pointing towards cubicles or urinals then what exactly is the problem. They're being taken out at the weekend anyway.

If the cameras are positioned by the enterance door then all they would see is the the backs of the "customers" as for zooming in on dicks, well they should look at Dáil TV!

edit: back to the subject in hand (not that one!) bullies often being insecure creeps often used to treat the school toilets as their domain and would frequently mistreat others who entered "their territory", this is precisly the reason the cameras are there in the first place.

Can you really thing of a worse job than looking at people walking in and out of the karzai all day!

Had one in my school to stop people smoking back in 2000. Kids these days

    No point!
The cameras are outside the cubicules, unless he wants to describe (in excrutionating detail) planting one on the floor!

Let me guess: Christian Brothers school and they claimed that the smoking/mitching problem was 'out of control'.

Very perceptive Mr Baker, very perceptive hmm

Nice little moist nugget thumbed into the camera lens is your man ,Mr. Baker, although you may not be a man to do it,would imagine your midden is a tad dry and withered.

Beef up on nice spring lamb chops and plenty of orange juice Mr Baker, and get back to us when you "bunting smoothly" as it were.

    Good man;)

    Atricle from Irish Times about the subject;

    Note it mentions;
Speaking on TV3 News yesterday, students said the CCTV cameras were visible from the toilet cubicles and they could rotate to monitor students’ movements.

Tbh nothing new. My school installed cctv cameras in the jacks about 3 years ago; irony was to stop them being messed with, they had to be put up very high; which in turn led to them being able to see into the jacks , which of course lead to them being removed[well, turned off].

**** the toilets anyway, smoking outside the door of the toilets ftw!
