Which programmes? - some start in different ways

Have you tried your Startup folder?

Start Orb -> Type 'msconfig.exe' in the search bar. Run that program. View the Startup tab. Uncheck boxes you want. Click Apply. Reboot.

I hate MSconfig myself, so I use the registry to delete keys I dont want to start up.

Start Orb -> 'regedit.exe' -> UAC confirm Yes

The keys you need to browse to are:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Wow6432Node/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wow6432Node/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

Delete whatever you don't want to start on the right hand pane.

If you are looking to delete something specific, you can use MSconfig.exe to find out where the Startup record is (under the Location heading on the Startup tab). So if location is HKLM/Software/... then if you want to remove that program's startup record completely you can use Regedit.exe and know exactly where to go
