UPC deals for new customers. FU for existing customers?

I have UPC analogue and 10mb broadband at home and was thinking of switching to Digital+ or Digital+HD but I was surprised at what the website said so rang them up to confirm.

To go for Digital+HD with anything over the bargain pack of channels I'd have to pay €110 for installation and €4.25 extra per month over what a new customer would pay! I have a big issue with both of these. For starters, I've been a UPC customer for years, paying them a not inconsiderable amount every month. It's bad form that the long term customers have to pay more for a service than a new customer.

The installation charge is really incredible though. Being an analogue customer I obviously already have a TV point and coax cable running to my TV. They want to charge €110 for someone to come out and unplug the coax from my TV, plug it into the digibox and plug a 2nd cable into my telly! For free, a new customer could require the installer to run cables over or through the house and fit a new point before he can plug in the box. Makes no sense.

So, mini-rant over, has anyone here had any joy with striking a deal with UPC? The drone I spoke to was just reading his script but is there any joy to be had from going up the food chain? I know friends who threatened to leave SKY and were tempted to stay with any mixture of free Sky+ upgrades, months of premium channels or Sky HD.

What's stopping Sky being an easy switch is the lack of a landline at home unfortunately.

    Any thoughts?

Having a landline is no longer a must when signing up to SKY. You have to pay an extra EUR 37.50 I believe to avail of a non landline connection :)
