    Hi,

Currently on JSB and got a letter in the post this week regarding a course that's starting in a few weeks. I have a degree in IT and that's the field i want to stay in but the course they've suggested to me is something different. The letter just had details of the open day for the course and the start date along with a form I have to sign and bring with me to the open day. I have absolutely no interest in doing this course as I spent five years in college and just want to get a job ASAP. If I turn the course down will they stop my claim do you think? I'd be willing to go to the open day but I've no intention of doing the course - it'd just be a waste of my time and theirs. First time I've had one of these letters so don't know if it's common to get them??

As far as I remember when my wife was on JSB first time around she wanted to do one of the FAS courses and was able to get a place on one.
The advantage of doing one is that while you are on a course your stamps don't get used up so even if you have no interest in the course itself you are better on one then off one.

And who knows, you might even enjoy it :)

If you're on JSB less then 12 months they won't cancel your claim if you reject the course.
But it's very likely a few weeks later you'll be called into a meeting and asked to explain why.
Just tell them the truth I suppose

But some courses are useful no matter what you did in college. Like the ability to get a forklift drivers course and licence could well prove useful some day when you're between jobs in the future

FÁS is a joke of an organization but their courses can be very well run and you will have something to do and may get a bit of confidence from doing it :)
