Apple Care - What is covered?

I lost my charging wire (don't know the 'technical' name) and I'm going to ring the applecare people to see if I can get one for free.

Does anyone know if this is covered by the applecare 3 year plan? If not how much does it cost to buy one?

Applecare isn't insurance, it's an extended warranty. So they won't cover something that you've lost or broken yourself.

You can get a new power adapter here:

    http://store.apple.com/ie/browse/home/shop_mac/mac_accessories/power?mco=MTM4NTU5MTU

Which one depends on your Macbook.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Any idea what the difference is between these two?

I've got a mac book Pro 13inch, the pictures in the links are different as is the price but the descriptions are the exact same.

One picture has a plug but the wire is tiny. I borrowed the one with the wrapped up wire and pug today and its length is pathetic. The other seems like the wire might be longer but without a plug supplied with it.

It'd be nice if apple just sold an exact replacement.

The first one is the original one that you probably have. The second one is a new model Apple introduced a few weeks ago, notice the mag tip that connects to the Mac is now aluminum, instead of plastic (that was the weak point of the old one, so it's now improved). Both will work fine.

As for extending the length of the cable, you can connect any "figure 8" cable to these adapters - you probably have some lying around from other things. I mean these:

You can use that "trick" as well if you need cheap world adapters when traveling - these cables are usually dirt cheap.

If you're going to buy the original type of adapter, try Amazon.co.uk instead:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000JEJC42/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

I got it for around €55 delivered, instead of the €89 that Apple wants for it... it only comes with the plug though.

Yeah, the 60W ones should be suitable for your Macbook. Also, I think both those Apple cables come with the extension cord, like what you had before:
An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.
