Excel Very Slow

I regularly use MS Excel for work purposes. Recently I am finding it very slow to do even the most minimal tasks such as filtering, editting cells etc. My work computer has a pretty high spec, so I don't think thats the problem. Also about 5 years ago in another workplace I had a similar problem. The IT person in my old workplace somehow worked out what the problem was, but I can't remember what the solution was. I have since lost contact with that IT person...

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    cheers

The file may have gotten very large, or fragmented. Running a defrag without Excel running may solve the issue.

You need to have it that its only recalculating when cell values change.

Is your PC only slow when using excel or is it slow using all applications. If it is only slow when using excel, is it slow for one particular file or with every excel file?

Also, what version of excel are you running?

    Guys

thanks for the replys. I'm using Excel 2007. I only seem to have problems with excel files, regardless of what size they are. Yellowblackbird could be on to something - how can I make excel recalculate only when cell values change?

    cheers

This link looks helpful. You're going to have to go through it yourself though ( I have enough users to support already thanks :) )
