    I've used a rule of thumb for years: 10lb = 2.5 minutes in a 10k. Better equates to 2 mins in a 5 miler. Seems to be in line (more or less) with the above link.

    Now......if I could only get rid of the 1st 4lb I've put on over what I was when I was running my best (long time ago :(:()..course I'm a chocaholic and ..............biscuits....mmm...:pac:biscuits

    +1 I've used 5sec/mile/kg lost on 5 mile pace time which is pretty much same as above - just under 2min in a 5 miler for 10lb.

    75kg now, 77kg is so called 'average' weight for my height so would be beneficial to drop to 70kg....I've gone from 85kg to 75 kg in 18 months, funnily enough the drop from 85 to 77 occured quite easily in about 6 months but I have struggled to lose weight once dropping under the 77kg, can only manage about a pound a month (goes back on quite easily though - bought a load of chocolate to hand out to halloween trick or treaters but none called so had to eat it all myself!). Will target to get to 71kg for the spring....worth 2 min off my 5 mile time...

    I would have thought he was a lot heavier than 12st 2lb. He was only 7lbs heavier than me yet 4 inches taller. I must be big boned :rolleyes:

    Seb Coe 4 inches taller yet 4 pounds lighter than Sally Gunnell. Imagine how good she could have been had she lost a few pounds?

    Tunney expressed some scepticism on another thread about online calculators, and he does have a point. They seem fairly accurate for me over a range of distances, however maybe that's because I referred to a few of them when setting race target times - perhaps they became self-fulfilling prophecies.
    I'm already 14% below average weight according to the OPs's link, so not much room for improvement there. Instead I messed around with the VO2 max race time predictor. Based on a test I did in '00, I should be able to do a mile in 3:59 and a marathon in 2:12. I think I'll have to start a training log.....
