High protein diet = bleeding gums?

    Yuck! I know, but...

Just wondering has anybody experienced bleeding gums as a side effect of taking protein milkshakes/having a high protein diet?

I'm 25 and in good health, always had very good teeth, no fillings or teeth pulled, but in the past few months I've noticed my gums bleeding a little, especially in the morning. I know a high protein diet can have certain side effects, and since I've been taking protein shakes (Promax) for the past few months I'm wondering if there's any link.

And yes I know I should go to the dentist! :p I will book an appointment next week, I'd just like to see if anybody has had any similar problems.

    Thanks.

Not sure its got anything to do with Protein. Maybe somebody else will say otherwise but I think you made need to floss your teeth every morning and evening

I dont take protein but I did have bleeding gums and once i started to floss all was cured.

I wouldnt say its anything to do tiwh protein, but Promax may contain alot of sugar.

There are other, better supps out there to try.

Are you getting enough vitamin C? If you're on a high protein diet you might be avoiding fruit, and could be vitamin C deficient.

Nothing to do with protein. Go to the dentist and see what (s)he has to say. Hopefully it is not gingivitis.

If they are bleeding in the morning it sounds like gingivitis or early onset periodontis.

    DENTIST ASAP!

Have you changed your toothpaste or toothbrush recently?

That did it for me a while back.

Ok enough. Go to the dentist!
