Hope this is the correct forum, feel free to move or point me in right direction if this has been asked/answered before. I will shortly be moving home and want to download something from sky+ box that i have recorded onto a permanent storage device, i.e. laptop or memory stick. Could anyone tell me if this can be done, and how exactly. And I mean EXACTLY because I havent done anything like this before ever.

Thanks in advance, hope someone can help

As far as my understanding goes with the sky boxes I think you need a DVD recorder and you can transfer your recorded programmes in that manner.

I do not know about downloading to Flash Drive or anything similar.

If you do have a DVD recorder, just google the Sky+ Manual online and it will be in there somewhere about how to do it step by step.

hook up a dvd recorder or Video recorder . easiest way,

You cant copy the files directly using usb.

of course if your laptop has a tv card just plug in the aerial from the +box and copy it that way..

There is a piece of software that will copy the program but that involves removing the hard drive and hooking it up to a pc.

Edit:- you can only play it back in a sky+ box with the correct sub though!

Blimey, I have a 320gb version of that. Haven't used it yet. Can you actually play a sky+ recording straight on to it ?

so my take on it would be to play back the recorded item and then record it as its playing back? sounds nice and simple alright, i was told by an IT mate to get one of these alright (for something unrelated)

I dont think you can record from tv onto it though.

Think it only plays content from computer or nas.

    have a look here

It plays through scart ok but wont record.

This is taken from that review

But if, for example, you can add a suitable TV tuner to your PC, you can set up the drive as a PVR

so it wont do what he needs.

There is a special software that allows you to copy content from Sky box'hard drive on to another storage device, BUT it will remain encrypted in a sky proprietary system. You can play it back only on a sky box.

As an option, buy a Dreambox and use the Sky card in it, then accessing the recorded programs under a different system, much easier to manipulate on a PC.
