Motherboard replacement for a Toshiba laptop

I've a friend who's got a Toshiba PSL2XE-01400UEN laptop. He's been told that the motherboard needs to be replaced. I have no further details on what the actual problem is yet. Anyway, the laptop is two years old and has no warranty coverage. Is it best to contact Toshiba for a quote or is there somewhere else that he…

Could do with opening the laptop and checking the part number on the actual motherboard.
