    Hi,

I'm considering buying the Samsung n140 (250gb) including the Windows 7 starter edition:

    I have 2 questions:

Is this the best netbook currently available?

Will the windows 7 starter edition include full versions of Excel and Word?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi there,

I have recently looked very extensively at the current range of netbooks available. Eventually I boiled the list down to a couple of samsung models. When I looked a little further it was actually the NC10 that won me over as it was the best all around package.

Its got a 160gb hard drive, which is plenty for most, 1gb ram, stereo speakers, in-built sim card slot, 6cell battery 1.6ghz atom processor and best of all, the keyboard is only 7% smaller than the industry standard.

Also, the price, while the n140 has alot of the features listed above, anywhere I looked it seemed to be working out a little more expensive. Windows 7 starter in my opinion is useless. Its got very little features, it wont even let you change the wall paper! Also, as regards excel and word. It will include a standard 60 day trial more than likely, as that seems to be the norm at the moment. But no off the shelf machine will include full versions of Excel and Word unless the shop is running a special offer.

My recommendation would be to go with the Samsung NC10, as it has bursting with up to date features. Its also nice and cheap and if you really want Windows 7, i would recommend buying a fuller version like home premium or higher with the money saved.

This is where I bought my NC10, http://www.ebuyer.com/product/168414 and you will see below that they are doing a special for 271 pounds to include a 2gb memory upgrade which I went for as that was the cheapest way of doing it.

    Hope that helps.

    Regards,

    Paul

Thank you for the advice Paul - I have to admit that I was very close to buying the nc10 also but when the N140 came out, you always assume that the newest is the best..... I'll weigh up the options and decide

One thing is for sure, this will not be an impulse buy

    Hi there,

No problem at all. I've spent ages researching all the different Netbooks as I will be using it in my day to day work so I need the right one that ticks all the boxes. Whilst I'll admit that normally the newer models are the ones to go for, I dont see much difference, apart from price between them. I felt the NC10 was the best all around value for money. My girlfriend bought my one from ebuyer last thursday or friday and it arrived yesterday. 271 pounds before postage, and even the postage was only 10 quid i think. It was a special bundle that came with a 2gb stick of memory (which you have to install yourself) and also a free samsung sleeve. She said the sleeve isnt that strong but none the less it was free!!

    Hope that helps a bit!

    Paul
