What Dublin GP's do ECG's?

Hi, not sure if I am posting this in the correct place or not.

Am training for a marathon. Have done lots of running over the last 2 years but never a marathon. So I want to get an ECG done just to be safe even though I'd be almost certain there would be no problems detected.

I'm based in Rathfarnham area so is there any GP's around that area or anywhere else in Dublin for that matter that:

    1) Do ECG tests
    2) Are open on weekends or late on weekdays?

    Thanks

many of the larger gp clinics will be able to do ECGs and if not, will be able to refer you to a hospital which will normally do them without a long wait as an outpatient.

BUT - ECGs are just a test which is very much open to interpretation, you in fact need to see a GP for a cardiac assessment to be fit for a marathon and an ECG is only a component of this.

I don't know which ones are open late in your area, calling around a few places will help to find which ones either open early (at 7:30am or open until 8pm). You could also consider going to a GP with an interest in sports medicine.

I WILL relax the rule on recommending doctors on this thread to allow people to post which clinics in the rathfarnham area are open late - BUT DO NOT recommend, provide negative comment or advise for or against any one particular doctor.

To be honest in this situation an ECG would be next to useless. It checks your resting heart rythmn over a period of a few seconds. It gives very little info on how your heart will respond after 2 -3 hours of continuous exercise (which is your concern having done lots of shorter distances). If you have concerns get seen properly as Dr Indy suggested

I'd imagine that somewhere in the Dublin area there'd be a dedicated sports medical centre who could do a more detailed evalution of your fitness levels and other criteria. Maybe try UCD, I'm reasonably sure they have a sports clinic that's open to the general public?
