Question, what is an iPhone backup suppose to backup? I did a restore this morning and restored from backup and no contacts, photos, Apps or settings restored?

So, what does this alleged "backup" actually backup?

it'll only backup what you tell it too. Do you have the items you mentioned selected for backup?? there is a section for each type in itunes..

I had thought these settings would be a given in that they are the basics of any backup? Admittedly, I didn't realise I had to select what I wanted backed up.

I didn't want to start a new thread..

Does anyone know if it's possible to extract the data from the iTunes backup? I have 5 of them? I'm hoping I can get back some of what I lost yesterday?

    Cheers.

This tool can help anyone who needs it. If you are looking for single file stuff, eg - SMS files, Contacts, Calendar or Notes you can use the free one. You need SQLite Browser to access the retrieved file if you want to see if it's what you are looking for.

No, it will only sync what you tell it to.

Yeah thats good info above, and this ('restore from backup') is different than what a 'sync' does, which seems to be what you're looking to get back Dave. So if that stuff is on your computer, you should be able to get it back on the phone.

I got the only backups I could find (They seem to auto delete on a daily basis?) and I looked in to it and got some things out (SMS / Notes / Calendar / Older Contacts). But none of the photos or settings are there.. It could be worse I guess, but still a MAJOR pain loosing the photos!

Lesson learned, manual backup up forever!
