Things are really bad atm, I would suggest stay in college as long as you can and do your best to pass.

the thing with electricians is there is now a massive over supply of these trades people since the end of the boom..
consider the amount of construction activity and domestic electrical work each year during the boom and the amount of electricians to cater for this activity...
now consider how little construction is going on in ireland during these times..
the result is a large number of qualified and experienced electricians are now unemployed.. the construction industry federation say another 100,000 people could loose their jobs from the construction sector...there are very few large construction projects in the pipeline, one biggy in ballymun is all i know..
any position that does arise is heavily sought after.
An electrical contractor who recruits a first year apprenticeship would have to be some what confident of future work for the next four years for this apprenticeship to be of any real value to you...unfortunately this is not the case at the moment in my opinion due to the massive downturn in construction..
if you do find an apprenticeship with a company it is likely you will be laid off before you complete it, this may happen several times & you may never complete it or it could take forever..i.e. being on first or second year pay rate after 3,4 or 5 years will be more frustrating than your current position...this is a reality for many people in many trade apprenticeships.. however im sure there is exceptions to my views on this..
but i think this is a fair summary of the situation you'll be facing..
don't give up on college, if your finding it hard get some help and if its really not for you consider other options than electrical apprenticeships.. it is a really bad economic situation out there, employment opportunities are awful and it'll probably get worse before it gets better...budget in December will not be pretty..
if your into electrical etc.. a great 'growth' industry to be in in the future will be renewable energy, see how your current college position may lead you into this area perhaps...postgraduate study options etc..
    i hope this helps.

dnt leave college. i did and got an electrical apprenticeship it was da biggest mistake of my life. i am nw in phase 4 and i want to go bck to college bt dnt want to drop out of something again so i am goin to finish my apprenticeship then go to college. i am stuck in a rut at da minute and its wrecking my head. it is nt an interesting job it consists of pulling wires, drilling holes, being out in da cold, coming home covered in dust etc... you dnt do electronics or more interesting areas like dat unless you study further. jst make sure your nt making up excuses to leave college. my friends dat finishd college nw have a much better blife than me!!!!
