In fairness though, I would say it happens as much or as little as it does in any company / place of employment.

I'm not actually being bullied. Failed attempt at humor which I realise is not funny. Sorry.

I would say bullying can go further in disciplined organisations than in regular companies.

ac cording to GRA members, a significant problem within the Garda has been sidelined because of the focus on to the Reserve: bullying and harassment within the force. Outgoing GRA president Dermot O’Donnell said he was aware of ‘‘at least one suicide’’ in the force as a direct result of this.

O’Donnell claimed that ‘‘more than 10 per cent’’ of the 9,500 officers represented by the GRA were affected by bullying.

If 10% is their official figure then its always going to be higher than that. How does this compare with regular places?

    ** Updated**

Just found a report on bullying in the work place
    http://www.entemp.ie/publications/employment/2007/esrireportbullying.pdf
7.9% of those at work report that they have
    experienced bullying

So not much higher than "normal"

No offence intended Staff Sergeant, but do you honestly think that members are going speak about their own relevant stations and what occurs within there amongst colleagues and / or to openly admit on this public forum to any form of bullying occurring?

Theres bullying in every job and I would doubt its any more in an Garda siochana than other jobs, the problem is that many people who are lazy and dont want to do what they are supposed to do hide behind the bullying regulations in order to get supervisors to back off. The abuse of this is then unfair on people who are actually are being bullied as their cases may not always be taken seriously.

    No offence taken Kerry4sam.
I wasn't expecting people to name stations or identify themselves.
Either - Yes, I know it does happen, or No - it hasn't happenend.

I would hope that if people seen bullying happening within their work place, this place wouldn't be the first time they revealed it. Or is that naive?

This Poster mj4, asked similar questions last year.

This one brushes on your question.

There's a 'machoism' in most security/armed services. It comes natural and sadly can end up going the wrong way and a member may (be it willingly/unknowingly) bully a colleague.

I'd say it ranks higher in these types of jobs than in admin jobs.

Not in ES myself but my father was in AGS, and often said it was going on.. in his station involving one garda in particular because of his religion. He's retired 12 years now, but always made a point of being nice to this chap who was constantly getting a hard time, there was even words had at his retirement party when one of his colleagues passed a stupid comment about this fella.
