So I've been claiming Jobseekers Allowance the last few months. I got work for a week in October. I only got the work the day before it started so i was late getting into the welfare office to tell them. The trouble now is i'm after being paid and i get the full amount i was expecting (as in i never got taxed.) I assumed the work would be going through the tax office, as i was asked for my bank details and pps. I was even talking to the employer about how i needed a letter to inform my social welfare office of the work.
Now i need to get a payslip to complete the process in the welfare office. I've tried getting in touch with the employer but it was for a festival so there isn't as many people in the office anymore. As the work was Freelance could it be that they paid me as if i was self employed and now i have to sort out the tax payment myself? Has anyone been in this situation before? I really don't want to go through a process of setting up a company in order to pay around 80euro tax!!
    Any ideas?

Go to LES (local employment officer) get advice. Or ring up welfare rights or INOU Or ring up Social welfare information service - they are very helpful.
Your employer should have deducted tax etc. You probably need to report them for not doing this. It's not up to you to set up companies etc. You were not self employed.
