Off backpacking for 8 months and used the moneysupermarket website to compare insurance plans. Best quote I got was from a company named Infinity, the package was called Backpacker Alpha. Has anyone else used this company before?

What would you guys say are the most important things when it comes to choosing an insurance company? I'm happy to base it on price as many of the policies seem similar, but at the same time I wouldn't mind paying extra for a company who have a reputation for being on the ball and fair when the **** hits the fan.

    Any opinions on this?

    Danny,

I'm in the same boat, trying to get backpacker insurance for 6 months from Jan but I am amazed at how expensive they are coming in at, like they all seem to be over €140. Is that normal? I always thought it'd defo be less than €100. Let me know how you get on!

    Are you a UK resident?

"This policy is only available to persons who have been resident in
the United Kingdom for at least 6 months in the last 12"

Have a look at the wording policy...under Residency was the above quote so not sure as an irish citizen you would be eligile for the infinity quote.

I may be wrong as I haven't looked into it in great depth but just though I would bring it to your attention.

I'm looking into insurance myself at the min and have looked at aib.ie (underwritten by ace) insureme.ie and getcover.ie ... offering decent enough quotes if you haven't been there already.

This insurance game is a boogle.

The insurance with usit is very poor.
I had stuff stolen and they weren´t helpful at all.
Im using travel nomads at the moment - recommended by the lonely planet and you can renew it outside of your home country. If you do buy it, google a discount code to get 10% off.

    Hi Danny,
I never heard about this company "Backpacker Alpha". But before buying any insurance you must aware of every policy. You must be clear all the points i.e. advantages and disadvantages of that insurance company from which you are going to buy.
Keep in mind that your policy must contain medical cover. Make clear the duration of your trip and your policy.
Go through the quote and make clear all your queries with insurer.

    Have a great day:)
