Sick of people that think they know you

Mostly people that you come across that's not family or friends! For me, its mostly work colleugues. Some of the people that comes out with the most stupidest of things about you and they think they're right too. The type of things they come out with always begins with: well i think you are..... Ok its their opinion. But why do they come out with something which they aren't even sure about and far from the truth?

Has anyone else came across these types of people?

I have come across people telling me all sorts:

While talking one day about what would you do if you won the lotto, i said i would like this and that, and to help out charities, the less fortunate. This idiot comes out with, well i think that you won't help charities, you're not that type of person.
So she thinks i won't help charities, while i give up 1 of my 2days off a week to do volunteering work. I can't walk past a homeless person without emptying my pockets. If im shopping in town, i feel real guilty walking past a person that has nothing.
While the very same person also had a thing to say about me doing volunteering, she thinks im mad to work for nothing.

Some people also makes me out to be racist. There was this coloured guy we once worked with and i absolutely hated him. It was not because of his colour. I just hated his attitude. He always made out everyone to be racist if you said no to him. He always thought if you said no, it was cause he was black. I thought that was fairly ignorant and didn't like him because of that. He's long gone now. But im still made out to be racist because i never liked that attitude. People still bring it up that i am racist and no amount of time telling them, i did not like his attitude.

I mentioned another time that i was doing a first aid course. I didn't mention the type of course, but one person automatically said, i wouldn't want you giving me mouth-to-mouth. Think she was rather insulted when i told her i was doing an animal first aid course-i'd rather give rescue breaths to an animal! She was not happy!

Has anyone else came across these type of people? What do you say? The problem with me, is that i am too slow thinking of put downs for them. Wish they would shut up and make the world a better place. No person deserves to be put down and insulted. Wish they would keep their thoughts to themselves.

People are idiots....you will find them everywhere. There is nothing you can really do to stop them being idiots.

Confronting every single person will make YOU out to be the badguy to your colleagues.

I say nothing really, unless i have a good comeback on my mind!!!

Just to say on your first point

While talking one day about what would you do if you won the lotto, i said i would like this and that, and to help out charities, the less fortunate. This idiot comes out with, well i think that you won't help charities, you're not that type of person.

Translation (co-worker talking): I wouldn't give a brown penny to them, I deserve this....

Some people do assume they know you based on stereotypes and assumptions and it can be annoying. so I can empathise with you.

however ... I work with people in a customer service type job. some I don't like, BUT I have never directly let them know I don't like them. As one professional to another I am polite and will facilitate any reasonable request.

I am no doormat, but I believe that in work, you maintain decorum and behave professionally. even if the other person doesn't, i.e. adopt the high moral ground.

Hence I wonder why the guy and all your colleagues knew you hated him? im sure he might have guessed he wasn't your favourite person, but for everyone to know you <quote>absolutely hated him</quote> ? I believe you when you say you had your reasons, but for you to behave in manner that your hatred was obvious?

also your response to a work colleague <quote>I'd rather give rescue breaths to an animal</quote>. Again id say that reply was harsh, even given her remark.

so im wondering if you might consider examining your own attitudes and behaviours, to see if you can make some changes, that might help influence others from making these assumptions about you.

I hope this doesn't come across as overly critical, it is meant as impartial advice based on what you said, not criticism.

    Get over it.
What does some randomer's opinion mean to you?
If they think that about you let them.
Everyone is guilty of letting their mouths run off a bit, especially in the office when there's not much else to do to entertain yourself.

If you're sick of how you think people view you make a few changes, even if it's just opening up a bit more than you usually do about yourself.
If someone asks you how your weekend was and you reply "Yeh, fine thanks. yours?" How on earth are they going to get to know anything about you?
