    Hi

I have a start up business with 5 emplyees and I need help and advice regarding employee contracts, employee and company legislation etc. Money is a bit tight so I dont want to be ringing up the Solicitor every time I have a question. Can anyone suggest a service I can use which I can rely on their advice as gospel?

Also I am in the South West region so it would be better to have someone at that side of the country.

    Thanks a mill

The small firms association might provide these sort of services.

I can recommend a highly qualified and experienced HR manager who I worked hand-in- hand with for 4 years; 100s of employees and all the scenarios and situations -positive and negative that come from that. She is working solo now and is based in the SouthWest.

PM if you would like contact details...

Thanks everyone for your comments. I suppose there are so many HR companies offering the same service but I dont know which are the best. THere is also the fact that usually you have to pay an up front fee and I probably wont need all the services they offer.

    Thanks for your advice

HR while very valuable isn't rocket science. Cynically, a share of it is about protecting you as an employer.

In this climate, forget about upfront fees and retainers etc. Most HR consultancies have themselves let people gp and are focusing a lot of time hunting outplacement contracts. An outcome of this is that there are a lot of good HR professionals working solo.

As a start-up some tools like good contracts (re hammertime) and free advice from these forums and elsewhere can get you by.

Given the availability of professionals however consider occasional pay-as-you-go guidance or planning help from an experienced HR practitioner when you need validation.

We also signed up to B2E over a year ago and would highly recommend them. philip@b2es.net is the e-mail address for the business owner and he's really helpful. PM me if you like and I'll send on his contact details.
