I know you can never recreate the tone exactly since it was all analog back in those days but I just cannot get that tone using guitar rig. I'm using a Stratocaster to play so its not the guitar, I've got the pickup setup etc right so the guitar is ok. Anyone familiar with Guitar Rig 3, I am using a Fuzz and WahWah, Using a plex amp and cab. It just sounds clean, as in completely clean.
Anyone have any tips? Just to recap i'm trying to get the tone that Hendrix used for Voodoo Child.

If you really want a Hendrix tone then you need this:

When you say clean, do you mean crystal clean? I'd say it's something to do with your amp settings.
Guitar Rig should be able to make the amp break up in the correct manner.

I'm also surprised that you can't get presets for it that are pre-programmed with a Jimi-alike setting.

Also, don't forget to turn your pickups upside down for the true authentic experience.

Amplitube Hendrix is pretty good at recreating tha\t tone, it has presets for most of the better known songs and you can tweak from there. If it's pedals you're after though, as above really!

Dunlop do a hendrix fuzz pedal, which I have and like, but I'm not entirely sure how much it actually sounds like Jimi, I just like the sound of the thing! A little goes a long way with these effects as well, don't just bang up the fuzz to 11, a small amount on top of an overdriven amp is about right

There's a thread on here about rig setups, I think JImi's rig is there, you might want to look at that.

Its not crystal clean per-se, I can hear all the effects, I can hear a wah and I can hear fuzz but it sounds absolutely nothing like the tone hendrix had. I'm downloading amplitube now, going to see how it goes.

Have you tired changing the order of the pedals? I remember hearing he had them in a different order to the norm, but I can't remember which is which at all! Just try messing with the chain, wah before fuzz and vice versa. That should change the tone a fair bit
