I was going to put this in work and jobs but I thought the expertise might be better here,

I have an invterview with GS for a position I have extended experience in.

The problem I have is that i have worked for an Irish company since Uni and I haven't had an interview anything like the type that I presume a company like GS Merril etc.

would anyone here have any tips for a company like this.

Is it Goldman in Dublin you are applying to?

If you have extensive experience in the area, I am guessing that is where the interview would be focused. Know a bit about GS, and dont mention the words "Vampire Squid".

What area is the position in?

cheers for the reply I'll pretend I know about "Vampire squid"

Pick up a copy of this Sunday's 'Sunday Times' - if you cant find it anywhere PM me your address and I'll post it over to you. It has a 10 page spread on the Company that will help you get a feel for who they are and what they do. If you dont know what the Vampire Squid refers to then you really need to read this article.

With regard the inteview they will split it into a few different sections to test different parts of your knowledge. There will be problem-solving maths questions, quantitative question, qualitative questions and general questions about your history and why you want to work for Goldman.

They will want to know what makes you stand out and you must portray that you are willing to work mad hours and that you love the job you are aplying for.

    Do not mention money.

You will need to stand out if they are to hire you. Identify three things about yourself that makes you different from others that may be applying. (e.g. you won a young entrepreneur award, you worked a summer in Asia teaching English and so on). They hire the best so you need to give them a reason why they should hire you.

Best of luck - there are plenty of resources online that can help with the problem-solving maths questions and the qualitative stuff you will need to prepare yourself. Have question like:

"Why do you want to work for Goldman Sachs?"
"What is the most difficult work situation you have encountered?"
"What would your old teammates say about you if I rang them now?"
    "What is your biggest weakness?"

etc.etc. prepared. Do not BS them - your interviewer will have heard it all before . . .

Stay calm, it is not the most important thing in the world. Good luck.

    very good advice

Can you clarify what the position is for. Since you have experience in that field, I would imagine most of the questions would be related to your previous work

I read the sunday times article, didn't it say they interview candidates about 20 times before hiring them or did I read that wrong, or maybe it was a typo or something

I think it said 30 to 40 interviews before offering a job.

I think it said 30 to 40 interviews before offering a job.

Think it's closer to fifteen from people I know who work there. That would not be 10 rounds either, maybe 6 rounds or 7 rounds speaking to 2 ususally people per round.
