I'm not sure where to put this thread. I'm trying to mix songs and make them sound different (not techno or anything just simple things like panning and echos) on my computer. I'm working with Reaper but the trial version is about to run out and I'm just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions for good music software like this?

You can still use Reaper after the trial runs out, it just nags you to buy it for a while when you start it up. Still works fully.

But try Ableton? It's the ****.

Could get more response on the Music Production forum a few doors up Lil. I'll leave it here for a bit if you want as someone may well be able to advise you but you would probably get more help in MP.

A little help? I can't seem to edit the thread to move it! Someone mind telling me how to?

You can't Humberklog will have to do that for you. I wouldn't worry about professionalism, you got to start somewhere!

In response to the OP, Reaper will be fine after the demo runs out. I'd say buy it if you can, its only like 50 quid, and its a damn good piece of software. Certainly the best unless you want to start paying a couple of hundred quid. Audacity is free but not really what you're looking for, more of a wave editor really. Ableton is good, aimed more at DJs though. Might suit your needs though, theres a free demo on the Ableton website which you can try out. I believe Sonar do something similar as well, which might be worth checking out.

I use a program called Sony Vegas. It has all the basic audio and video editing tricks, including panning and reverb and it's so simple even an idiot (me) could use it! Only problem is it's kind of expensive.

There is also Krystal and Audacity, both free to download and simple to use.

Ableton Live. It rocks. Great for any genre of music, I use it pretty much exclusively to record and master my metal songs. You can find torrents of it anywhere.

I don't think so! You can use it to DJ, you can also use it to do a whole load of other things.

Thats very true and it was my DAW of choice for quite a while but it lacks some of the more traditionally minded features of the likes of Cubase and Logic. Still great software and I still use it regularly.

im a fan of acoustica's mixcraft myself. easy to find, easy to use and fairly solid digital effects
