UPC & poor reception

BBC 1/2,UTV and Channel 4 where unwatchable this morning - suffering from horrendous digital break up on both audio and video on UPC basis service/analogue in Dublin

The digital service was unaffected - are the sources not the same.

The poor picture quality continued for a number of hours before UPC fixed it.

Its starting to appear that UPC are allowing the analogue service go down the drain - nicam being lost, radio channels going to blank carrier followed by poor reception of the 4 UK terrestial services and not forgetting the horrendous reception of BBC2...

My analogue service has been getting worse over the past few months, started on BBC2 in the Summer and now its completely unwatchable, same is starting to happen to the other channels.
Have digital so only switch to analogue when recording something, thank god.
Number of analogue only users are decreasing so could be a deliberate ploy alright.

As I understand it the bad BBC2 reception is due to interference from DAB radio transmissions.

Did read something on here about DAB radio interference but I'm still noticing a definite degradation of the rest of the analogue stations, was'nt there a number of posts about UPC ceasing this service, I'd say once the number of analogue only users drop below a certain number UPC will start offering 3 months free digital or something to get the diehards to switch over.

It could be something as simple as the equipment they're using for the analogue feed being on it's last legs, and them not wanting to invest in repairing / replacing it. Can't blame them really, but they should just come clean and admit it and encourage everyone to switch over to digital ASAP rather than letting the service slide into oblivion like that.

The 'diehards' also include people like me who use the full digital service on the main downstairs TV but are happy to use the analogue service on the TV in the bedroom, thereby saving me the cost of an extra digital box.

That said, the reception is definitely deteriorating, people have pasty faces and I suspect the bandwidth being dedicated to the VHF channels is being squeezed to make room for more digital and HD services.
