Got myself a mountain bike recently with the view to keeping myself active over the winter months.

Can anyone recommend any good trails etc in the Dublin area?

Thanks in advance for the info.

Been looking into getting a bike myself and doing something similar, the two ones I've heard people mention are djouce and ballinstoe, but it would be a fair old trek to get out there by bike. I believe theres also trails out in howth but I don't think they're marked so you'd probably need someone showing you the way the first time round - I also believe they're pretty hard.

    Define "Dublin area".

You'll find some nice trails up in the Johnny Fox's area if you're southside. I'm not sure about northside.

If you have transport, then the world is your oyster, and Wicklow has the best trails.

I always found the Howth trails easy. I posted a map of them some time ago. I'll see if I can dig it out.

Thanks for the info, I am on the Southside so Johnny Fox's would be handy for me. Will also check out Wicklow aswell.

You'll find some nice trails in the Glencullen area as well as the infamous three-rock

Theres '00s of kms of trails in south dublin/north wicklow. However, because it it technically forbidden by all types of organisations to MTB in these areas, there is little or no record of them. Your best bet is to go out with one of the clubs on beginner spins and take it from there. You could find them by trial and error but there's a lot of error in my experience. There has also been extensive felling of the Coillte forests in this area and many superb pieces of singletrack are now just happy memories :-(
