Can you claim this off a policy or has anyone ever done this?

I'd get a few quotes for the repair first and then see if the cost is worth claiming off your insurance company. Check your policy as some policies allow you to claim up to a certain amount before it effects your NCB.

cork is full of usless knackers.

had a car stole before with all my text books in the boot.

    usless scumbags.

Say I will leave it alone, its a 01 mondeo. looks bad enough, might put up pics, can you get motor factors products to repair this?

yeah you can but unless you have some bit of an idea what your doing, you may end up making it look a lot worse

also depends how deep they went with the key or coin or whatever they used, how deep are the scrapes?

Your insurance policy might have an excess on it that might mean claiming will not cover any of the damage. A excess is an amount of a claim that will not be covered, for example a policy with a excess of €400, the damage to the vehicle totals €450, the insurance will only pay €50, you pay €400.

    Check this out first.

Sorry to hear that. I've come to the point of always parking the car in my driveway and I live in a quiet spot. I'd love to catch a few of the little runts. Give paintdoctor here a PM. He's cork based and would give you honest advice

Yes we used to dream about catching them in the act! There's no answer to it when you only have the option of on street parking.

    hi guys

here is the damage, whats the consensus?

Can I use fine sandpaper attached to them drill bits to even these off and use t cut after. or is this a job for pro's...?!

Talk to the PaintDoctor, he is in Cork and will be able to advise you.

edit: they seem to be down to the primer, if not the metal, sanding will be no good to you, and wet sanding is not for the faint hearted, or the inexperienced!

Is it just the back door they attacked X in the city or more panels besides? You can get touch up paint in Halfords. They carry the very most of the common colours in most makes and models. I touched up some light scratches and stone chips in my Vectra and my brother reversed into a post recently in his 2001 mondeo and used one of the Halfords kits to touch up some scrapes it left in his back bumper. For the Vectra it was a simple matter of getting the paint code from the plate in the door jam. However, for the mondeo brother had to ring a main dealer and give the registration number to get paint code. For the vectra it was a code as in letters and numbers but I believe Fords go by names such as "Amparo Blue" for example.

The kit consists of three tubes, which are primer, paint and laquer. The kit is under 20 quid as far as I recall but you do get what you pay for....Don't expect a perfect finish as you just wont achieve one with them but I'd consider it to be acceptable for an older car where it is hard to justify spending mega bucks by taking it to the professionals. A steady hand and a lot of patience would come in handy for doing the job! Also I found I got a slightly better finish by mixing the lacquer with the paint as opossed to paint and then lacquer.

Also X in the city, for what its worth (probably not a lot if there is) is there any CCTV in the area where keying was done to your car?

dont touch it with sand paper, used t cut or g3 compound to cut the paint,,it will cut the paint and fill the scratch ,then buff off,,,, or get the color touch up paint for that color off of dealer,, and used tiny brush to fill scratch,,then use t cut to remove excess paint,,so only paint left is actually in the scratch,, dont sand it or you will ruin more paint work, and need to spray whole door

thanks, could you elaborate on this again

the using of t cut and paint touch up.?

The scratch is two doors, passenger side, the worst seems the rear passenger.

I dont think its gone down to the lacquer myself.

as for cameras, forget it... scum bags all over the city, would need 30 million cameras to cover them all...

Just to clarify x in the city you first have the base coat or primer, then the paint and the top coat is the lacquer. Looking at the pictures you posted it would appear to me as if the scratches are down as far as the primer

It doesn't look too bad really, I've seen a lot worse. I'd say T-Cut will make it barely visible and maybe try a touch-up pen, which you will probably get more easily from your Ford dealer than Halfords.

I believe people have had success with touch up paint and very judicial wet sanding, but with lacquer top coat that isn't so easy. If you wanted to try cutting by hand with compound/t-cut, that's as much as I'd do as a novice.
