Shirley Temple Bar? (sorry couldn't resist :D)

    The Wire for me.

Also the Sopranos I guess (in fact nearly anything from HBO).

    Arrested Development for best comedy.

The Sopranos from the US and Spooks from the BBC with True Blood as the best newcomer.

The Wire, without a doubt. Nothing comes close apart from the Sopranos and a handful of others. But nothing can best it and i'm already looking forward to watching it all over again.

    Supernatural, with no doubt.

Have to say Lost. Its the only show where I couldnt wait to see the next episode and kept me so hooked. I think its great the way they keep everything so consistent, and the whole mystery of the show and the unraveling of the mystery makes it so addictive. Every Season has been fairly strong, and at the end of every seaon you just cant wait for more. Its sad to see it end soon, but Im glad they didnt drag it out any longer.

For me it's Life on mars and its sequel Ashes to ashes, best tv ever not to mind the decade.

God it dragged out a little too long IMO. I do enjoy the series.

I think The Wire is an excellent yet difficult show to get into, and what annoies me about the series is it really shows up all of the flaws of other US Detective series, while Fringe isn't a detective series I am finding it difficult to complete since is so far below the intelligence of The Wire. I have to say I have pretty much forgotten about British dramas in the last decade, especially since the start of the decade just saw them focus on piss poor soap opera and extending their soap operas to 5 nights a week, I think The IT Crowd is possible one of their best comedies but again they seem to have taken the easy route of QuizComs rather than comedies. Waking the Dead is enjoyable but it suffers from the same The Wire Factor. I enjoyed some of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes but perhaps the spin off was a bit of a push.

I have to agree that the last ten years of TV has been the golden age of HBO and cable from the US. I will include OZ but it began in 1996 and finished in 2003.

As for Irish Television I think a few stand out but then a few also don't, and as this is about good TV that is what I will mention. Paths to Freedom, Batchelor's Walk and Pure Mule. I am also going to mention Love is the Drug which I felt was totally underrated due to one really bad show preceding it (BBW) and Pure Mule following it the next year. In terms of other programming as we aren't just talking about drama/comedy

British - QI, Live from the Apollo and Screenwipe
Irish - The Blizzard of Odd and The Panel
American - 24, The Wire and Freaks and Geeks (It ended in 2000 :D but it is also one of the best from the 1990s).

For me it has to be in order

The Shield (flawless from start to finish, not 1 bad episode)
The Soprano's (almost perfect, lost me for a season or 2 though)
Arrested Development (rare to see such clever comedy from the US)
The Office (UK version, never been so embarrassed watching the telly)

hard to pick, im halfway through the west wing which is amazing and looking like the best of the decade, or lost which is just pure class,

im gonna go for the draw,
lost and the west wing (i know im half-way but im gonna give it the benefit of the doubth)

most overrated show that was recomended to me, has to be the sopranos, it was a good show, but god was it overhyped, its like the godfather films, people are obsesed with gangster dramas, goodfellas was the best ganster drama, base a series on that, cause the sopranos was not based on that concept,

worst has to be the failure of heroes to live up to its expectations, the concept was so great that i thought it would carry through the guts of 2 decades, but its so dissapointing,

Peep Show and Entourage would be my favourites, along with Prison Break 1. I'm not a big series follower.

Nothing comes close to the first 2 seasons [and first few episodes of season 3] of Battlestar Galactica.
Lost has also had 4 magnificent seasons, but 3 was nearly unforgiveably bad at times.
Best show for quality AND consistancy , has to be Peep Show.
