Spare NTL Box Query

I have a spare NTL box and card from my previous house. NTL set me up with a new box and card when I moved, but didn't take away the old box which was working fine.

My mother is also an NTL customers, she has her NTL box in the sitting room, where she watches satellite TV, and a 2nd NTL cable running into the Kitchen, but no 2nd box.

If anyone can shed any light on the subject, my question is as follows:

If I give the spare box to my mother, will it work for her? If not is there anything that can be done so that it would work?!

She doesn't really need NTL in the 2nd room, hence she hasn't got a 2nd box from NTL herself, however it would nevertheless be handy for her, and there's no point in leaving a good box idle imo.

The box is the property of UPC and should have been taken or returned. It will be probably be switched of by now and so theres no point in giving it to any1. If they want digital then they will need to subcribe to it directly.

Hi steveon, thanks for your reply.

I understand that the box is property of UPC, however it's very old and the NTL/UPC guy didn't want to take it back! It's not my responsibility to spend time and money unning to them with their old equipment!!

Nevertheless, I thought it might be of use to my Mum.

As regards subscription, maybe I didn't make it clear in my post, but both myself and my mother are already fully-fledged NTL/UPC subscribers.

I was just asking if the box would work, as she already has the necessary NTL cable feeding into the second room, which she paid NTL to provide.

You say that they have probably switched off the box? Surely it's only the card that they can deactivate?!

The card is paired to the box that it is in. Putting in a different card will not make the box work...as I said if she wants a digital box then she will need to get one directly from UPC..
