How much money, genuinely, would you willingly pay to see Ireland beat France and qualify for the World Cup?

I love dese bets especially when either of my favourite teams-Ireland/Tipperary/Liverpool are involved in big big matches...

For me it's gunna be E500 on France @2/5 (Coral)...Here's the reason for the bet

    Scenario 1: France win:mad:

I wont be watching Kevin Kilbane set the World Cup alight but at least i'll be E200 the better.

    Scenario 2: Ireland win:)

Yes i know, i'm E500 worse off but who wouldnt pay that to see the boys in green South Africa bound.

As far as i'm concerned now it's a win-win situation..i'lll still be screaming my lungs out for an irish victory :P....So how much would you put on the line?

I hear what you're saying but no. You stand to lose 500 euro so how can that in any way be a win. Ireland will qualify anyway so hold onto it mate

I'd lay France and collect when Ireland qualify.:D

i've often thought about this way of betting.

its almost like your paying for ireland to go through,
and if they don't you get a €200 consilation prize.

    here's hoping your down €500 soon enough:D

i like your thinking but i only have 100e in loose change.... im going down to the bookies today to put the money on... i agree, i'd be delighted to ship 100e for the irish cause...

Then send it to them in a cheque or something to pay for some costs.I don't understand this sorta thinking whatsoever

Would you not spend the five hundred on going to the away leg?

can't, i'm caught up workwise....these type of bets only come up every year or so for me....i will have a 'positive' outcome either way

that's stupid. If Ireland win, losing the money takes all the good out of it.

my goal isnt as such to make money solely, ireland qualifying is...if this doesn't happen, at least i will have made some profit as consolation....

just out of interest, the 3/4 times previously i have placed these type of bets i have won money opposed to my team winning the match!!

Don't know if it's worth that amount of money though, that's some loss.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

Yeah, it makes much more sense (more than no sense) if the price was 5/2.

I know what you mean, and tbh, even though it makes no gambling sense, I agree with it in principle.

Not really, its all relevant to your own income/bankroll etc

considering the fact that if they do go through, i'll be shelling out 1000s for flights+accom for the world cup, 500 isn't exactly daunting

I agree with it too in a way. It's about emotional metautility. Although I just made that word up. Money is only a means to acquiring pleasure. What this chap is doing is like this - he has a large emotional wager on the Betfair of life that Ireland will qualify, it will pay him off hugely in pleasure if it comes off, but to lock up an emotional win he is laying some off to the tune of €500 worth of utility.

I think it's a sophisticated concept actually and I've used the idea myself in the past, but it's not a gambling concept per se, it's a life tilt concept.

What i would suggest though it to wait for the second leg. I mean if we beat them in Croker or even hold them to a scoreless draw france price will drift out a bit.

    lol
What if they beat us and the price shortens

This thread gave me reverse idea. Was thinking of sticking 150 on Ireland at 10/3 to qualify in the hope that if they win it will be five hundred to stick down as a deposit for South Africa. Conversely, if they lose I will already be pissed off so won't be too much of a blow losing cash. Checked price yesterday and they were only 12/5 so decided against it as a) I was expecting better value and b) I am off to Paris so that cash could probably get an extra round :-)

I don't think they were ever that price mate.

I searched the best prices at the back end of last week for a thread on here I started at they were best priced 11/5 to qualify.

This thread never intended to be a 'general/universal' concept as such...'would you spend E500....'. It's personal. E500 can mean a lot/little, it depends really on your own circumstances. I know people who wouldn't even forsake a Euro, and would regularly watch Irish games..

For me it would never go as far as the 'house and kids' type thing, obviously enough. I wouldn't even wage E600 on the outcome. I will be happy if the result is we end up qualifying and me 'losing' the money. Gambling isn't all about financial gain, it's fundamental, we do it every day of our lives, well most of us anyway....

Again, i never intended to make a financial gain purely from the outcome. Either way i will be 'happy' with the result to varying degrees of course.

PS:i can't fooking wait till sat!!
