Okay so my squat was steadily increasing and I was actually enjoying it(!), but I havent done it now for 3 weeks cos it feels as though the front of my knees are going to pop even if I go down on my honkers on my own bodyweight. This usually happens for a few days after doing the exercise but now it wont go away. Whats the story? anything else I can do to feed the testosterone levels?

the most obvious thing causing it would be breaking at your knees, but its hard to tell without a video

At a guess, you're doing a quad dominated squat, which could be pulling on your patella and all the fun stuff around that.

It might take that a while for it to stretch out (the ligaments/tendons around it) so you have to back up the squats everytime they flare up.

Hi, I was just wondering what exactly is the correct form for a squat. I have to do them as part of my workout. I have to use a thing on my shoulders and basically pull up and put down weights attached to a string.

I apologize for my awful terms but I'm a fitness newbie!!

I was told to keep my back and shoulders straight and push my ass out but it just feels weird. Is that the correct form?

Get some instruction from an instructor. Took me ages to learn deadlift for example. I just kept asking the gym dude to look at me, session after session.

You might have Iliotibial band syndrome.

I've gotten it from running, it kinda feels like the knee cap needs to pop.

You should try to stretch it using either

    or

Lay off the squats till it feel better from stretching, then get your form checked before squatting again.

With all due respect to the quoted poster above, but if you have an issue with you knees from squatting which is not clearing up after you have (I hope) stopped squatting, then you really need to visit either your GP or a good Physio and have the problem diagnosed properly.

You should not self diagnose and rehab using the Internet as your reference as your diagnosis may be incorrect and you could do yourself more harm than good.

Get your knee checked out. Then when given the all clear, either pay for a session with a PT or see if your gym has an instructor compentent enough to show you how to squat with correct form.

    Best Regards,

    M

Agreed - especially if you're having problems with bodyweight squats.

    Best of luck.
