    Hi folks,
I'm currently car-less after selling my VW Polo Saloon a couple of months ago. At the time I didn't need a car but situations have changed so I'm back looking.

I'm trying to decide between two cars at the moment. Their details are below.

    Peugeot 407 - €5,600 (like this one)
    1.8 Petrol
    5 Door Saloon
    Red
    70,000 miles on the clock
    2005

Nissan Primera - €6,750 (like this one)
    1.8 Petrol
    5 Door Saloon
    Wine
    55,000 miles on the clock
    2004

When I first drove the Primera I feel in love with it. Great drive, great interior, and I felt an instant connection.

When I drove the 407 I started to get doubts about which to choose. I didn't feel as connected to the car and a few friends have Peugots (206, 307) and I never liked driving them. The 407 drove differently though.

Just wondering which of the two do you think is the better car in general and which will hold its value better in the next two or so years.

    Cheers,
    C

Neither to be honest. They'll be near impossible to shift later on too. If it was my money I'd look at a Mondeo or even the usual boards favourite an Octavia

Have to agree tbh every car has its pros and cons but if thats the only option then nissan all day long.

between the 2 the Nissan, but only because I dislike the 407 so much. there have to be better options out there.

I'd go for a Primera personally.. Spotted this one earlier http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=200841190420078 Much cheaper too

My Uncle is a 407 Stalwart, my Dad a Primera stalwart - now moved onto the Mondeo after nissan never really came up with a Primera replacement. Having driven both, I'd prefer the 407, just felt roomier and more sturdy in my opinion. Although the Nissan would be way easier on juice/parts etc

Actually I'm looking into getting a car before the new year and those are on my shortlist. I've basically got 4k to spend on a diesel saloon and at the moment its Primera-407-Octavia-Mondeo-Passat-Focus-Avensis I'm looking at. Thinking I'd get the most car for 4k with an Octavia? Any opinions? Sorry for the semi thread hijacking... :o

Primera diesel is the 2.2 litre Renault unit. Octavia would probably be the best bet if you're not worried bout having goodies or rear seat room.
It's not in the same size class as the others, it's the same as a Toledo/Bora

I'd consider a Leon from the North if I was you. nice looking machine, Audi A3 dash and high spec models available.

Anyone else think €6,750 is crazy money for a 04 Primera with the unpopular 1.8 litre engine?

OP, i'd buy neither to be honest, a petrol 407 is almost sale proof and that model Primera was nowhere near as good as the one it replaced.

I'd be looking at something along the lines of these:

    Mazda 6:

    Ford Mondeo:

Both cars are superior to the Primera or 407.

The 1.9 VAG in the Skoda is a bit of a legend of an engine from my mates tell me so I'd be inclined to lean toward that. Not really fussed with style (obv. if I'm looking at a Skoda) and while I'd like a few goodies, not particularly fussed either. She needs to give good mpg, start every morning and need **** all parts or looking after. I've a soft spot for the Mondeo as I drove the new version and the one before it in 1.8 TDCI and loved the both of them. The most solid cars I've ever driven.

Also consider an old shape Avensis D-4D so. (2000-2003), they're very lively and very reliable. finding a low mileage one is hard. saw an 03 high spec with 40k (not the 03-09 shape) that would have worked out around €5k.
