Moving house and getting SKY under a different name

I have SKY HD for 12 months now and next month myself and my partner are moving house. The Sky account is under my partners name so we thinking of cancelling our current account, take the HD box with us (am i right in saying it is ours after 12 months?) and then I was going to register for SKY HD under my name and avail of any new customer offers. We could then use the box we bring with us an extra box to get ftv channels.

Would I be better doing this or just changing the address and paying for the dish to be installed in the new house?

    Thanks

@gazzer, no you are right. cancel and resub as a new customer is the best option. remember to use a different payment option (a different account or visa card).

and dont forget to offer your installer a few quid extra for running additional cables for your other box

It looks like there will be a month wait or longer before I can get Sky installed in the new house and we are moving in next week. If I bring my existing SKY HD box (subscription for which will be cancelled next week) can I still watch the programs that I have recorded on the box by just connecting the box to the tv with the HDMI cable?

    nope.

you can only watch it if you have a sub.

agree. New sub is a much cheaper option and you will get all new equipent under warranty for 12 months.

A new payment method is a must though. Sky have copped on to the same bank account / visa card being used again for a "new" sub.

Wrong, the payment details, Direct debit or credit card have no baring on the sub.
It's the address and phone number if there is one that are the factors.

Offer him a few quid? For two extra cables runs from a dish down through walls / roof / attic / whatever for a HD box? What do you think the engineer is? I'd love to know where you'd get an engineer to do that for "a few quid". Let me know and I'll gladly employ him!!

Address, mobile number, landline number if available and bank account or credit card are cross referanced. Gazzer, make sure you go Sky Direct with this one and not a local agent - he get his ar$e kicked for re-signing an existing customer as a new and possibly lose his retailer number.
