Resale value of imported cars

Just wondering, if I import a car from the UK, complete with RAC Full Inspection documentation etc, will it be more difficult to sell on down the line than say an Irish-registered car?

Would a Dealer be any less likely to take it as a Trade-in?

Does anyone have any experience of this?

    Thanks.

Depends on what it is and how old it was when imported. Many dealers will refuse a premium car that's been in the UK for a good few years, whereas something like a 2 year old Focus would be less of a problem.

What kind of car are you looking at?

It will be a little harder to sell/worth a little less. Make sure you have invoices to support a full service history, and keep a copy of the clear HPI report, there is a widespread belief that many UK imports are clocked/stolen/crashed.

Must be some line of thought in it. After all BMW were quick enough to tell us how great value their "Sterling Collection" was

I'm thinking about a 2 or 3 year old Galaxy.

I was talking to a local Dealer about a Galaxy on his lot and I asked him how many owners. His answer: "Well, you would be the first Irish owner".

Put me right off! Maybe that answers my own question ... although that was more down to the Dealer than the car.
