GoatGripe! Mens Coats

In mens coats there is not a lot of variation. Short pea coats, calf length overcoats, mackintoshes, anoraks or military great coats. Thats basically it given minor variations and materials.
    I want something different.
I would like a cross between an overcoat and a greatcoat. A shin length overcoat without the military trappings. I'd like that in wool, camel or tan in colour, fully lined and bespoke fit would be nice. I want that double breasted, with horn buttons. When I turn up the coller and lapels it should fully close over the 'V' at the throat.
    Under €500 would be nice.
Don't ya just hate that when you want is not readily abvailable?:(

Yay for second hand and charity shops. :)
Boo for never finding one that fits.

I wonder how much it would cost to get one made - it might be an option.

TK Maxx is always good to keep an eye on - it might take a while but eventually something might show up.

The OH got a classic Hilfiger wool/cashmere knee-length coat with velvet collar, in black for E180 (original price over E400). Beautiful fit. He'd been looking for a while and the best option to date was a D&G coat for close on E600

I check in TKM's every few weks to see what they have. Sadly the Hilfigers were too small for me. :o

What I was getting at more in the post is that I always have something I'd like that is not generally available, something I've put together in my head. To put a girlish slant on it say you want a pinnafore but they never make the pinnafores as long as you would like them. Or you see a great hat but you really want it with the brim an extra two inches wider. Or you want reversable opera gloves. (Someone besides me must think thats a good idea )

What is that unique piece of clothing that you crave, what would you redesign to suit your personal tastes.

For me, that would be the classic shirt. I've got a large bosom, but combined with a 5 foot nothing frame. To get shirts to close, I have to buy size 14/16 (ridiculous) but the rest of the shirt never fits - shoulders are too big and arms are too long.

Sometime in the future, I will get shirts tailormade - it's important to look good in my line of work and I would love to get a wellmade shirt.

Have you tried TM Lewins for shirts? Large range of wimmins shirts there and you might find something to suit. Still, nothing like a custom made shirt. :)

I prefer my shirts to be long and baggy. I'm built for comfort. I can't be doing with the current trend for slimfit. Thats just the manufacturers skimping on materials in my opinion.

I have a fair few shirts from T.M. Lewin - they're quite good but they suffer from the problem above - long arms and wide shoulders. I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm quite disproportionately built.

Ah, it can look good on the right person! Personally, I love the Ted Baker shirts for men. My OH is tall and broad-shouldered, but they fit him well (17" collar or size 6)

If I cannot afford a completely tailored coat, bi-annually, in at least ten years....my whole education will have been in vain! :p

Seriously tho', I recently had a mass made jacket (Gant military coat) refitted for me by a tailor in Cork city. It was my first experience of a garment that feels perfect on me. I'm 5'5 with a slight frame but an above average bust so the coat was a size too large for the rest of my body. Now it looks like it was always cut this way. Have you considered altering a coat like this, Goat?

I've promised myself a fitted shirt after the holidays but need to find something that will be worth messing around with first.

OP Aquascutum and Dax websites might be worth a look

Dudara, TM Lewin do different shirt sleeve lengths for men, not sure about women though
