    Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a piece of easy to use Drum software to use with my Pro-Tools LE rig (002 Rack, Mac G5). I much prefer natural kits, and the style of music I play is more suited to a live drummer. However, Terraced housing stifles me:( Soooo, is there a piece of software you gear nuts could recommend? Seeing how I'm going the digital route, I'd also like the functionality to get that slowed down vinyl effect. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    J.

I'm a big fan of Addictive drums by xlnaudio. You can try their demo here http://www.xlnaudio.com/?page=downloads&d_page=demoversion

im using ez drummer and am wiating for superiour drums 2 to arrive .
( like ez drummer but more pro )

the prerecorded grooves area god send .
you just edit them to suit , and you can multi out each mic to process it seperatley .

im adding live cymbals which is a bit tricky , but it works well
ive played drums for 30 years and this is the quickest way to get a song up and running without aload of arsing around.

+1 for Addictive Drums , I have to say as a stand alone package it great, then hook a midi keyboard up and you'll be hooked big time (heh hence the name)

The tones in my opinion are superb and the built in effects are very good and natural sounding. The interface is very user friendly and straight forward. There's a load of template grooves in there too which means its great if you just want to load up some beats and jam.

Addictive Drums sounds great from what i've heard.
Is it easy to write a full song of your owns beats though? Whats the best way to do this if you are using pro tools?

Appreciate the input guys. Went onto youtube and viewed the 5 tutorials. Must say, It looks the business alright.

I second Glasshearts question though. Can you edit the pre-made beats within AD? Or is it a case of editing the parts on the Protools track?

HI guys, you can definitely edit everything in AD in Logic so I assume it's the same for everything else. It works on all the major DAWS. Lots of really good presets and styles.

You can also mult out the individual drum parts and eq each separately. It's bleeedin rappit.

Anyone know the cheapest place to get it? Thomann are cheapest I've found, but I like to shop local if their prices are as competitive.

I've no experience of Pro Tools or Macs but I've loved Toontrack's EZDrummer on PC since I discovered it a few years ago. There are a few different expansion packs available for it e.g. metal, vintage rock, jazz and many more.

Im running Superior Drummer 2.0 with the NY expansion pack, there is nothing that really comes near.

I have most of the ez drummers from when they were new but the ambience mics and options within superior are second to none.......

more money but you hear it my friend !

    ^^agree

im running the ny avatar and new york expansions and they sound so so good.

im tossing a coin between the metal foundry and the new custom and vintage updates.

on one hand i cant see myself having a lot of use for metal foundry but if i did it would be indespensible.

the custom & vintage i already have from S1 but they've updated it a lot...

Some really good videos on Youtube for the Superior drummer software.

What do you guys use it for though? Sound replacing or writing your own beats?

    both.

ive rendered multi samples of the kits for using as .gog files (for drumagog)

i also use it for composing and ill often use it for pre-production with a band. handy when you havent got the room for a full kit.

i just got SD2 + NY expansions and its fantastic so far.

so much so that im seriously considering getting a td20 and recording using this with SD2 - and pack away the acoustic kits.

the options and mics, samples and adjustments are wonderful , you can get up and running in 5 minutes - or take some time and do a serious faultless production in a few hours.

you dont even needa td20 - any decent roland will do .

i learned alot about drum recording in the last 2 years , and this learning helps you get the best out of SD2- but even a novice will get great results.

this makes life so much easier and so much more pro sounding.

    i rate it 9.9

Check out steven slate drums too. I've heard some great songs with his samples and they have just released a reduced package where you can buy the expansion packs as you need them. There are a load of samples on the website too. I would recommend checking them out before you decide anyways.

they are beautiful but, and maybe its just me, i find them a little too over processed.

i know they use the kontakt interface but not having used them im unaware if the processing is done to tape or within kontakt.

    can someone clarify?

The slate samples are all processed to tape but that doesent mean you cant do a little further scuplting of your own to fit them into a mix
