I don't know if this is the right place to post but here goes.

I am an unemployed civil engineer 1 years post grad exp. I am thinking of training as a tax consultant. I have a level 8 degree as required by AITI.

My question is what do people make of tax consultancy as a job

I have done leaving cert accounting and had a very good understanding of it orthr than that my business experience is nil. how hard are the exams to pass?

Basically would you recommend tax consultancy as a career?

Just so you know theres a massive gap in international tax consultancy.

I've been looking for an International Tax Consultant for the Netherlands and Germany and no joy.

Looking for 11 months now !

I did part of the first year course and found it amazingly boring.

Also I found I disliked the idea of helping already rich people to pay less tax.
    - although before I started doing the course I thought it would be great , as the salaries are savage.

    My 2 c.

Its something I would love to do too. I am PQ & I passed the institutes technician course. Personally I don't know how to go about getting into the industry, added to that I couldn't take a salary drop so I'm kinda stuck where I am
But you go for it. Its a good career.

Do you have to have an honours degree to become a tax consultant?
I graduated from UL in 2002 in Business with a pass degree(looking back I wished I hadn't arsed about as much) & was thinking of doing it. I realise at 27 I'm older than most but my career is hit a plateau at the moment.
    Can anyone confirm this?
