OZ Police equipment

I'm living in Sydney and can't get over how much better equiped the police are here compared to home.

All the marked cars seem to have on board computer terminals and they have had automatic vehicle recognition for years

and tonight my taxi go stopped at a random breath test.
No awkward blowing into a tube , the officer held the device to the drivers mouth asked him to count to 10 and that was it. check complete in 20 seconds.

Given that the country is now broke I guess AGS will never get the equipment it deserves.

How is it awkward? Put it in your mouth and blow until it beeps

Its a well known fact that Australian Police are better equiped to deal with what they face down under, and so are the Brits, and the PSNI, and the Yanks, and the Kiwis.......the list goes on for to long.

Although I do feel as a member of the public and not actively working for the Guards day to day that the levels of equipment here now are not that bad at all.

From reading posts here I've established that PULSE needs a dramatic overhaul, squad cars in the country are ridiculously under powered, Garda stations in alot of cases are overcrowded, the legislation that Gardaí have to work with is ridiculous (not enough fixed penalty offences, that kind of thing), pepper spray and Tetra radios are only now being introduced, etc.

Theres alot to be done, but I'm sure that the Aussies have modern, forward thinking management who are willing to invest in the Police.

Lets not Forget till last year Australia had a surplus Budget, and a population of 20 Million people. Comparing the two is not really fair.

In fairness so did we up until a couple of years ago. But thats a different arguement altogether:)
