Now i assume that there are alot of people here who are into their fitness but are also in college and may find it hard to afford supplements, dealing with training and nights out etc and im hoping this threat will be full of tips etc for such people!

going out (and getting drunk) and working out cant be in the same sentence if your one bit serious about body building.

alcohol hinders protein synthesis, lowers testosterone production (turns you into a woman), besides you cant afford the extra calories from the drink, unless you have an 8 pack and have arnold like vascularity

most people go out so they can get laid, i work out so i can get laid (and look better and people envy me etc etc, rather than give out to me for being a langer)

    1. work out
    2. rest
    3. eat
    4. get laid
    5. ???
    6. profit

you should still be able to go out one day a week probably (but dont get drunk), if your friends peer pressure you into drinking, then find better friends.

what helps is living near campus, you can go home and eat/take supps, otherwise pack your own lunch/drinks etc, affording suppliments is hard, im fortunate enough to have parents who will take care of it, but getting a job might help if youre broke.

I know plenty of people who can manage both, training, diet and drinking. It's just a matter of balance. Get your training and diet right and then you can fit in your socialising around that. It's not really that difficult once you get into the right habit.

socialising and drinking are 2 different things, me explaining it would have been alot better than a link to explanation which has a wall of texts containg 100s of forms of cancers/brain damage etc which alcohol causes, along with the inhibitation of protein synthesis (which is the only thing i care about, i dont really care if i get cancer, one in 4 people is bound to get it so might as well be me rather than some 11 yr old kid who has his life to live.)

since you brought up bodybuilding in your other post, you do realise many bodybuilders drink/party like everyone else?

also, have you any pics of this body that gets you laid all the time?

edit: also, i agree with mloc. Get your priorities right, schedule your workouts, get enough food and sleep and you should be fine.

    1) He never mentioned bodybuilding

    2) It's amazing how I've gotten bigger, stronger, fitter AND leaner now that I've stopped being such an anal loser and started to go out and party

As for the rest of the post, I'd get banned for replying.

Absolutely LASH the water into you from around 1am. You'll still be drunk going home, but it'll help sober you up and you won't feel half as bad the next day.

agreed, but protein synthesis shouldnt be the reason not to drink

also, no-one is recommending that he gets wasted every night

So anyone who goes out and drinks is a langer? How did you manage to turn an advice thread into an alcohol bashing thread. I wasn't even gonna dignify the cancer comment with a response- still trying to work out if it was a joke or not though- we're you actually serious- cause if you are then yes- that's how the world works, mind taking my future cancer too?

At least 90% of Irish students go out and drink at least once a week I'd say so instead of putting them all in one big group of langers how about some advice on how to juggle the best of both worlds? Drinking can be good if done in moderation- granted most of the time it isn't. Living a student life away from home can be extremely tough- trying to make new friends, work a part time job, balance studies, and in this person's case- have a healthy fitness program.
Now i assume that there are alot of people here who are into their fitness but are also in college and may find it hard to afford supplements, dealing with training and nights out etc and im hoping this threat will be full of tips etc for such people!

I find that supplements are the cheapest way to intake protein- and there are plenty of good deals out there online- we're only talking 50-60 euro every 2 months or so. myprotein.co.uk is cheap and reliable I find.
Outside of supplements just keep an eye out for supermarket deals on meat, tuna, nuts, etc. Stay away from takeout and you can have a cheap healthy diet if you shop around.

As Hanley said, water after a night out, or even something like dioralyte to rehydrate you works the charm. If you can stay away from junk food while drunk all the better- I've finally managed to achieve this! Everything can be done for super cheap if needs be, whether it's eating, drinking or travelling so it's just a matter of figuring it out.

ImportedGuy, if you had of held a shoe in one of those pics people could see what bf% you had!

@OP as Hanley said water on nights out is key, just down one at the bar in between pints/shots. Your body will thank you in the morning.

It is perfectly alright to go out, as mloc said, just find the right balance and you'll be sorted.

I live for that stuff! I usually get some weird looks from people in burger king when I'm lashing a sachet into my XL coke after a night out! My ex used to keep a stash of it in her myriad handbags to make sure there was always some handy.

The local pharmacist thinks I have the ****s permanently though.

Haven't laughed so hard this week :D

I just started college myself and haven't taken a supplement since september. Used to go to the gym 4 times a week during the summer, now i'd be lucky to go once a week, have ended up not bothering to do squats and deadlifts anymore as i just seem to be going backwards and it's a bit depressing.

To counteract my lack of protein supplements though i've just started eating alot more chicken and red meats.

Seeing as i don't have time to go the gym, i bought myself a pull up bar and a pair of dumbbells and i just quickly go through a few things at night ie. Lunges and shoulders press.

And as to regards drinking, most weeks i just go out on a saturday, the odd weekday if there's a class party too. I just don't see the point in sacrificing going out and having a good time, in the so called "best days of my life" as i keep being told by every relative i encounter, over wanting to get 100% out of my workouts instead of maybe 80%.
