just wondered if anyone knows what the average price for a stacker destacker (the yoke that converts one feed to two for sky+ functionallity? )

I spoke with an installer who said he could do it for 120euro including installation and cost of device, I guess this is a reasonable enough price so think i'll go with it but just wondered if anyone knows how effective are they? Do the work just like a normall stand alone dish or will i have some problems?

Just have one feed at the minute but because we live in a apartment block with a comunial dish... any replies would be appreciated!

that sounds a pretty fair price.

Ive had countless problems with communal dishes when using them ....you will have to use the company that installed the communal dish as they would probably be the only ones allowed into the plant room where all the appartments are wired from.

As Stevon said, acesss to the headend is required. Also needed is a spare feed from the multiswitch (not always available). Also a factor is the length of the cable run and the quality of the cable. Stacker de/stacker work by converting to a higher freq. than is normally carried on satellite cabele so losses are higher.
120 sounds way too cheap. Barely covers the cost of the parts leaving virtually nothing for call out and labour.
No reputable installer would work for so little and do a proper job.

Cheers for this - actually the guy i've spoken with is the Sky Engineer who kitted out the apartment block, he mentioned to me that normally if i had gone through the apartment management company directly to get the sky installed - i wouldn't have had to pay for the stacker destaker - aparentley they get the equipment reinbused from Sky - only reason i've got to pay is that i originally signed up independently - so i figure he's giving me it for 120 cause they've probably got a stack of them, he said he'll give me the receipt so i can try claim back from sky as it was an incomplete install - somehow don't think they'll reinbuse me - called them yesterday and they didn't know what i was on about! so I don't mind paying him if it'll do the job!
