Problems getting Update.

Got a PS3 Slim about 4 weeks and have been having real trouble updating to version 3.01, without which I cant connect to PSN.

I can get it online and get it to detect the update but when I tell it to download it it simply sits there at 0%, I left it for about 10 minutes, could it take longer than that to get to 1%? surely not.

My connection is a little patchy so I downloaded the update to a pc, stuck it on a USB key and tried to update that way, still no joy, it told me there was no applicable data.

I'm now seriously worried that there might be a problem with the PS3 itself, could this be it? is there something I might not be doing correctly, many thanks for any help for this noob.

On the USB, create a folder called "PS3", in that folder create another folder "UPDATE", put the update data into the "UPDATE" folder. Plug her into the PS3, and click on system update! Hope this helps ;)

I'll try that so, I Hadn't got the "UPDATE" folder, just the "PS3" cheers.

Dont think its the HDD, have had no bother playing games or copying movies to it. have a 250GB model as I didn't want to have to worry about storage either.;)

Ok I have this issue as above but have tried the usb update but still does not work. I have had some issues with disc reading before and had to power down will on so may have caused issue with HD. So i tried to quick formating HD but update did not work after that. Then I tried full format but it got to 30% and said error. I suspect I will have to replace HD but if nay one could help without change of HD I would be very grateful.

    Regards and thank you :)

It would help if you told us the error.

I would be pricing HDs anyway, methinks.

Aye, I'd be looking into getting a replacement HD asap if I were you, gar32
A lot of people will have 60GB ones just lying around like myself, so maybe put an ad up on adverts.ie if you don't want to splash out on a 250GB+ one.

Could be something simple though, so let us know the exact error

I know not good but nothing was happening for a long time and nothing else worked. Any help would be great thank you :)

Are you sure that is the correct error, does not seem to exist.

Only one I can find is this one 8001002b, and it doesn't seem relevant.

    Is it still in warranty?

Thats the error I forget the b at the end :) I have the PS3 2 years next month and won it as a prize. I don't think they would change it as I don't have proof where I got it. What is that error F1ingers ? I was looking online and found nothing to explain it in PSN help. Thank you again for reading about this issue :)

Sharon welcome. Which game are you trying to run?

To try and fix PS3 error code: 8001002b. Try this and in this order:

    1. Eject the disc (if it's in the PS3) give it a really good clean (make it as good as new) pop it into the PS3 and try.

    2. If you're reading this, then step one failed, aherm. Whoops. Okay, you might have some corrupt data installed. So you'll need to resort to removing that before trying again. (Go to : XMB > Game > Data > Find the game that's causing problems > Triangle > Delete. * A word of warning you may wish to back up your data to a pen drive or something of that ilk if you have a lot of save games). Once all game data references have been removed, try loading the game.

    3. Still not working?! Oh dear. Not looking good is it? Okay, repeat step 1, then reboot, then insert the game and finally cross your fingers and pray to the heavens.

    4. Ah Shrucks! Wasn't expecting you to get to this point. Sorry to say but you're going to have to give the friendly chaps a telephone call at Sony.

    All the best,

OK I had to go and buy a 250G drive in Peats for E60. Changed it out and all seemed fine but now the Green light is flashing if I try power off. I read that 10sec hold of the power button on the front switch it off. Tired and it does but why should I need to do this? Could it be a problem with the power inside?

    Thanks for reading :)

    Wait... what?

Is the green light flashing when you try to power off via the controller? You can't just press the power button to power off the PS3, you need to power off via the controller. If you want to perform a hard shut down you need to hold in the power button.

I power off with controller but screen goes off and then when it used to go red at the power button. Now it flashes green. I have wait for a good while but I read that 10sec hold powers it down. Is there any thing I can do? help!
