I bought a pre made Laptop last christmas and recently bought windows 7 as Vista was a nightmare.

I now have a couple of questions.

Since I did a clean install of Windows 7 I have lost the pre installed software. I did make the restore DVD before doing this.

If I was to put in the restore DVD to try and get back my software will this re format windows 7 again.

Main software I am looking for was the blu ray player since the undate to Windows 7 its not working.

I also lost DVD burning software and all.

The laptop is HP Pavillion dv6 series i am not sure which model so if there is a way of finding out can you let me know that too.

    Thanks

Does VLC do blu-ray? Just use that.
Did you get and DVDs with the machine when you bought it?
The software you need should be on those.

It depends what type of restore DVD you created. Most likely it was a vista restore cd so using this will put Vista back onto it.
As already mentioned some of the software that came with the laptop may be on CD's that came with it.
    What software are you missing?

CD Burner XP pro will do most of your burning needs for free.

VLC will play pretty much anything as well

    Hi,
dont worry, its easy to fix. I also have a hp dv6 series laptop, and i also did a clean install of windows 7 from xp. When you did the install, did you format the drive? Do you still have the recovery partition? Dont need it for my answer, but handy to still have it.
All the drivers/software that came with the laptop are available from the hp website here
    http://welcome.hp.com/country/uk/en/welcome.html#Support
It doesnt list the windows 7 drivers yet, just the vista ones, but they will definitely work. You can check what dv6 laptop you have by looking at your screen on the top right, it should say hp pavillion dvXXXX where XXXX is the version.
So all you do is go to the above site, put in the model number in the box, click drivers and it will give you the option to download drivers and software. If for some reason you cant find your exact model, mine is the d679ea and here is the link for the drivers for that.

The reason im showing this one, just in case, is there is a hp software update link towards the bottom, if you install that, it should find any necessary drivers/updates anyway.
Hope it works for you, and problems give me a shout.

Basically missing all the software that was bundled in the laptop. There were 0 cd/dvd that came with it and I guess I created a complete restore CD. Thanks for the info on the cd burner
