I'm having with a problem with Final Cut pro, when I try to open it it keeps on saying "Final Cut quit unexpectedly" I hit relaunch every time and the same message keeps coming up so Final Cut Pro wont open.

I tried to reinstall it from the .dmg file but when I try to open that the message I get is 'the following disk images failed to mount, reason: no mountable file systems"

Anyone know how I can solver this or reinstall Final Cut Pro without hassle. I need to get FCP back up and running ASAP

    Cheers

sounds like you may have a corrupt hard drive.

sounds like you may have a corrupt hard drive.

Corrupt Hard drive, How so? Every other application works fine. The main scratch disc I use with Final Cut Pro is an external 1TB drive, and that's working fine.

Anyone have any solutions, I need to get working on FTC right away.

    Cheers

As Greentree_UK has suggested, it's most likely the drive. I've had the exact same problem recently since I switched my scratch disc to a 1TB external drive.

I don't have any problems with Final Cut when I use the internal drive on the Mac.

Sounds mad but I just leave it for a few hours and it seems to work fine. Just make sure you save your project regularly and save/render smaller amounts of footage at a time.

Is your hard drive connected via USB or firewire? If USB (like mine) that may be the problem when I am trying to render large amounts of HD footage then I think the USB can't handle all the data in one go.

How do I change it back to the internal HDD if FTP wont open to let me do that.

I do save regularly, I'll keep the render thing in mind, I left it for a few hours then restarted it and its still the same.

    Its a USB Harddrive

really, using USB with final cut. Firewire is alot more efficient. Resetting scratch disks can be done by dumping the final cut prefs from your Library folder.

Ok I still don't know how to Solve this problem, do I have to reformat my external drive that I use as my scratch disk?

If I drag all the FCP folders from my External HDD, such as "Render files" and "capture scratch" will this reset the scratch disk back to the internal HDD.

Also can I get a USB to Firewire adaptor cable to use with the same drive or will I have to get a new HDD with a firewire connection.

Sorry for all the questions I just really need to get this problem solved.
