    Hi all,

Does anyone else have any cover songs they like to play that are a bit "out of the ordinary"?

    Examples (mine) would be:

    Skee-Lo, I wish
    Blackstreet, No Diggity
    Home & Away Theme
    Coolio, Gangsta's paradise

Just thought I'd throw it out there.
Feel free to throw it right back at me

I like covering songs and totally reworking them. Keep the chord progression, but play it in a different style, with different instruments, maybe new melodies. I'm working on a very Kraftwerk-influenced cover of Highway 61 Revisited at the moment.

A Leitrim band called The vibes does Gangsta's paradise, and do a good job too.

my band Fret Buzz, does Keep on movin' by Five! Also do Pokerface, but i wouldnt call it out of the ordinary, most bands do it

Why is it that when people want to be "Out of the ordinary" with rock bands they just play more ordinary songs?

It can be fun to take pop songs and rearrange them to be interesting, it's definitely something I recommend but don't pretend you're picking "different" songs.

You want to be unusual? Actually search for some unusual music. Look for bands like Cinema Strange and cover some of their stuff.

In all honesty, that's not surprising. You look for something "different" but when you're actually presented with it it's not to your taste.

I think it's certainly more likely your average Irish band will cover those than Cinema Strange.

    Well yeah, obviously.
I'm not looking for songs which are the least likely to be covered.
I'm looking for songs that everyone knows, but wouldn't expect to hear a band playing.

Oh, waterfalls by TLC is another good one.
The bluetones do a pretty good cover.
    It's in youtube somewhere

Uh, sure. Either you were a very open minded 15 year old or you lived somewhere very strange indeed. It's very far from anything Linkin Park-ish. I fail to see how there's anything "immature" about it.

if these two tunes can be merged then anything is possible, just use a bit of imagination (not saying that this would be a great cover btw)

:DHow about a slow grindy metal version of Model by Kraftwork:D

    Actually, maybe not.
